Those games are only indirect evidence that white is better *or equal* after 3...dxe4 4.dxe4 Qxd1+ 5.Kxd1. 3...Qc7 is the sort of non-theoretical thing Carlsen usually does well with, but he's not playing to his usual level lately. A day later Firouzja and Caruana had time to prepare. 3...Bg4 is such a natural Caro-Kann move, white was bound to be ready for it. 3...g6 doesn't even try to exploit white's opening (same as 3...Qc7 that way). It basically asks if white wants to transpose to some theory after 4.Nbd2. It's not surprising Caruana did better than Firouzja -- he has a better team.

Are you sure ? What's wrong after 5. Kd1 Nf6 ?

The pros seem to avoid it, Carlsen playe 3. -Qc7 and got a terrible position yesterday (but somehow managed to draw it , because he is ... well Carlsen), today Firouzja got killed by Pichot avoiding the main line with 3. -Bg4 (although I think he was equal somewhere)

This is because you are analyzing for the black side. As Petrosian said, when he analyzed for black everything looked slightly better for white; when he analyzed for white everything looked equal.

Everything is easier for white: 6.Nbd2 Nbd7 7.Ne1 - nothing Black needs to loose but no fun at all. Fernandez analyzed this line in the May Update in Detail (Khanin-Dragun).
