I used to use ChessVibes but now it is hard to find a good news source. The best imo is still certain blogs like Dennis Monokroussos chessmind. http://www.thechessmind.net/

Who wouldn't want Karpov's chicken adobo-stained shirt from Karpov vs. Korchnoi Manilla '78??

Thanks, all; some solid leads here.

Chessbase is now trying to sell me NFTs, and if this isn't a sign that they've jumped the shark, I don't know what is.

theweekinchess

is a good one to see the games from the most recent tournaments. you read everything on their site.

I would have to say that chessbase will give you what you need to know. Like articles on chessbase are very likely to be found no where else.

Chess24.com and Chess.com for me. I am somewhat shocked that I almost forgot:
https://theweekinchess.com/
This used to be my "go to" place for news and games. I just added the bookmark to my bookmark bar.

Another ChessBase daily visitor. Other than that, my regular visits are to Spraggett on Chess, Noel Studer's blog, BCM's review site and Chess Publishing ! No other news sites really grab me, unless there is an event on when Chess24 is good.

My main site for chess tournament news is chess24 (https://chess24.com/en/read/news). I agree that Chessbase has gotten less useful as a news site for the reasons mentioned above.

Excellent question. I would also like to know. No doubt the best sites are in Russian but my Russian is not good enough.

duckduckgo "chess news site" - my comment
  1. chess.com - Uses more bandwidth than Zoom! What are they doing? I only visit from the work computer when I don't have to pay for the data. Which means a quick glance at the openings forum, no time for news.
  2. chessbase.com - What you said. I still visit daily...
  3. chess24.com - Don't know about it.
  4. espn.com - Only news about Magnus Carlsen + anything to do with India, Indian GMs, Indian juniors, etc.
  5. fide.com - This used to be terrible, but looking again today it's probably better than chessbase.

I used to get all my news from Chessbase back in the day, but they seem to have become more focused on pushing fluff pieces and adverts for their products in recent years (decades?) - as of course is their right as a commercial entity.

What are the go-to sites these days for chess news?
