Two Knights defence at CPub

With the popularity of 3 Bc4 at elite level in recent years it's not surprising that theory has been developing very quickly in the Two Knights.

Jon Tait's new "Disreputable" book has some very interesting material on the Ulvestad 5...b5, arguing that Black doesn't have to transpose to the Fritz 5...Nd4, where Black still seems to be suffering theoretically.

Tony K - thanks for the recent material at CPub on the Two Knights with 4 Ng5 d5 5 exd5 Na5 6 Bb5+ Bd7 - I've been trying this for Black in fast games online and I've been pleasantly surprised how much active play Black gets. Weaker players just exchange on d7, when Black is more than fine. After the critical 7 Qe2 though, Black must be very precise; the normally well-prepared Dubov failed to get enough play in a recent game as Black vs Aronian.

But the main battleground at high level still seems to be 5...Na5 6 Bb5+ c6 7 dxc6 bxc6 and now Gunsberg's 8 Bd3, with horrendous complications, apparently based on deep engine analysis. Recent results have been heavily in White's favour.

Tony K - could you give us a CPub update on the Gunsberg please, and maybe your overview of the Two Knights as a whole, with recommendations for Black?
