All that early Nbd7 stuff too would be 'new' in the past 18 years I suppose? Or has that even managed to come and go.

In general, of course its good enough to let white fight for an advantage Smiley Very few main lines gone missing even with computers as absurdly strong as they now are. 

Nearly all drawn with perfect play of course.

I realize now that I transposed moves. So, again:

Since 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. f3 O-O 6. Be3 c5!? has been reasonably satisfactory for Black, attention shifted to 6. Nge2!? c5 7. Be3 Nc6 with complex play.

6. Bg5 c5 is another way to play the Saemisch.

The Makogonov system, 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. h3, is hardly new but perhaps newly popular. It gives White attacking chances, though Black has chances also.

Well of course 6...c5 has been on the scene as a/the major reply to 6. Be3 for something like 30 years.

(If you go back a little more than 30 years, there was a repertoire book [by GM Drazen Marovic] which gave the gambit accepted as favoring White, and advocated 6...b6 [which is basically to prepare ...c5]).

I too have tried to catch up on Saemisch theory, but from the Black side of the board.

After 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 d6 5. f3 O-O 6. Be3 Nc6 7. Nge2 a6 8. Qd2 Rb8, 9. Rc1!? seems annoying. Some authors have recommended 8...Na5!? to cross White up.

However, theoretical interest has shifted to 6...c5!? It seems that the pawn sacrifice is fully justified. However, I'm a little slow in warming up it.

What is the state of Sämish theory these days? I haven't kept up much with opening theory for the last 18 years but back then the classical bayonet attack was still all the rage against the KID. That's a long time ago and development has probably turned elsewere by now. What's the status quo of Sämish and how does it compare to other main variants of the KID. Is it good enough to let White fight for an advantage.
