Love the position search directly on the site.  Great convenience and resource.  Thanks!

I originally assumed the position search would only include the moves played in the actual games, so I was a little surprised to see that it also uses all the variations from the PGN games in its database, and thus includes all the games mentioned in the sub variations as well.
However, I've actually found this quite useful myself, what do others think? Undecided

Please keep the variations in the index. It's useful !

That's precisely what makes it useful.

Tony - Like you, I've found the search feature's ability to find a position in both games and variations to be of great value. This is especially the case when games have a great many variations, such as those in the ChessPublishing sections. Before you introduced the search feature, I had difficulties in determining if a specific position had been analyzed because ChessBase would only search the games, and not the variations. ChessBase support informs me that their software should do both, but so far their suggestions haven't produced the desired results.

Yes, that's weird. Max's notes are incredibly detailed so there may have been a problem converting the PGN game into the HTML for the popup game because of its size, so either the program removed some variations or I did, I can't remember which.
Anyway, I don't think there will be that many similar missing sub variations.

hicetnunc - I did the position search and also found the Riazantsev-Carlsen game among the results. Like you, I did not see the position in that game when I clicked on it from the search results. However, when I used ChessBase to look at the PGN version of the game that I downloaded early this year, I saw that there were seven alternatives to 5.cxd5 that were analyzed by Max Illingworth. Among these was 5.e3 dxc4 6.Bc4 b5, transposing to the position in your search. I don't know why this large section of annotations has been excluded in the version of the game that we directly access on the ChessPublishing site. Perhaps Tony can weigh in on what's happening.

It looks like there are some indexing mistakes in the database. Today I looked for the following position and the game Riazantsev-Carlsen, rapid 2016 was referenced, while it doesn't feature the position, neither in the main line, nor in the notes :

It's working fine on a nearby friend's PC, so it's a mystery to me why it isn't on this laptop! I get the basic screen, but no move arrows below the board or move info in the box to the right of the board.

It's a great resource, replacing the defunct gingerbase position search. I've renewed my subscription  Smiley

It would be nice to have a direct way to download the pgn(s) from the explorer though.

Wonderful resource! Except that this morning it seems not to be working, or is it just me?

Thanks, Tony! That's a great tip. Actually, now that I'm aware that update info is shown in the address, having it as part of the search result is less important.
