	It seems that french BDG specialist Nicolas Tripoteau (2301 but losing 50 points in october! Too much BDG ? ) sees 6.Ne5 Be6, with the idea Nbd7, as the refutation of the entire opening!! I do not know if 6.Ne5 is forced -Why not 6.Bc4?- but I quite like his idea, reminding me of the Scandinavian.

	I make no pretense of knowing what is the best defense to the BDG, but I maintain that 5...Bf5 is a very good one. I wonder how many strong players as Black would actually try 7...Be4 or 7...Ne4 with the clock ticking. I myself would be unlikely play either move even in postal. 7...Bg6 is perfectly satisfactory and allows Black to keep his extra pawn. If teyko's judgement that this produced an equal game were correct, I could even then rest my case: it is White's job, not Black's, to demonstrate an advantage in the opening. But since he remains a pawn up with no obvious weaknesses, Black after 7...Bg6 has reasonable play for the win, and scant expectation of defeat if he continues to make solid moves. Shifting one's pieces around and looking for simplifying opportunities is not so very challenging, after all.

I have 2 lines to propose you in this defence : 6 Ne5 e6 7 g4 Ne4 8 gxf5 Qh4+ 9 Keé f6 10 Nf3 Qf2+ 11 Kd3 Nc5+ 12 dxc5 Na6 13 Nb5 O-O-O+ 14 Nbd4 e5 15 c3 exd4 16 cxd4 and now (instead of Nb4+) 16...Bxc5 17 Ke3 Bxd4+ 18 Nxd4 Nc5 = and 9...Nc6 10 Nxc6 Nxc3+ 11 bxc3 Qe4+ 12 Kf2 Qxh1 13 Na5 Qxh2+ 14 Bg2 Be7 = These lines seem to be better han the usual ones In this defence , there is more Spiel and more fun than the usal lines Friendly

	It seems that an infamous line of the BDG can go to the recycle bin. 1.d4 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.f3 exf3 5.Nxf3 Bf5 6.Ne5 e6 7.g4 Ne4 8.gxf5 Qh4+ 9.Ke2 Qf2+ 10.Kd3 Nc5+ 11.Kc4 a6 12.a3! a)12...b5+ 13.Kb4 Bd6 14.dxc5 Bxe5 (Qxc5+ 15Kb3 Bxe5 16fxe6 o-o 17exf7+ Kxf7 18Qd5) 15fxe6 fxe6 16Ne4 Nc6+ 17Kb3 Nd4+ 18Ka3, b)12...Nbd7 13Nxd7 b5+ 14Kb4 a5+ 15Kxb5 Nxd7 16fxe5 Qf5+ 17Ka4 Qxe6 18Qe2 Nb6+ 19Kb5, c)12...Bd6+ 13dxc5 Qxc5+ 14Kb3 Bxe5 15fxe6 Qb6+ 16Ka2 Qxe6+ 17Qd5 and White wins in all three variations. But 7...Be4 8.Nxe4 Nxe4 etc. 11.Qf4 Bb4+ 12.c3 g5 might be a little better for Black. Anyhow, in the Gunderam Defence Black has more chances of active counterplay than in the Teichmann Defence.

It doesn't really pose any problems to a well prepared BDG player though.} Be4 (7... Bg6 8. Qf3 c6 9. g5 Bh5 10. Qf2 Ng4 11. Nxg4 Bxg4 12. Bd3 = ) (7... Ne4 8. gxf5 Qh4+ 9. Ke2 Qf2+ 10. Kd3 Nc5+ 11. I think the most testing line of the BDG is either the Hubsch gambit orthe Zeigler defense.} * The Gunderam positions are not that much different from the Tiechmann. They are about the same. I just don't think BDG players have much to worry about if they play the opening. The langheinecke and the lemberger counter gambit seem to be the most popular and challenging declined variations, so if you are well prepared I don't see a problem.
