Hi everyone,

I am not a subscriber here yet. But i'm wondering which sections should i get. It's likely that there are many prospective subscribers looking at the forum here and it will be good if someone tells us which sections are good.

IN particular, How good are the 1...e4, nimzo, KID and Daring Defences sections?

The 1... e4 section to me is most important of all because of the caro kann which there are very few sources on and i'd like to keep up to date with the theoretical lines.

The Open Sicilian section is one of those I was thinking of subscribing to (also the Nimzo section and then probably either 1.e4 or Anti-Sicilians). Therefore it is bad news to me that you consider this section the weakest.

I was planning to start playing the Open Sicilian as white and thought this could be a good place to start (given, as I understand it, there are overview e-books of all the Open Sicilian variations excluding the dragons). This, while waiting for "Openings for White according to Anand vol4", which I think will cover the Sicilian.

It seems many of the members of this forum like the 1.d4 d5 section, but this I do not play with either colour, while the Open Sicilian I play with black and am, as stated, planning to play with white. Maybe I should pick the 1.e4 e5 section I try to learn the Spanish Smiley.

I've been a subscriber almost from the beginning and have watched with interest the various sections evolve.

IMHO the weakest section BY FAR is the Open Sicilian section. This is partly down to the Fed himself, whose work-rate does not exactly  impress, but mainly down to the fact that, even with the Dragons in a separate section of their own, the Open Sicilian is just too big a topic for any one author to deal with properly.

I therefore suggest that (at least) the "Rolls Royce" of Sicilians (the Najdorf, of course) should be given its own section in Chess Publishing and entrusted to an author who is an acknowledged expert in it.

A similar case could also be made for a separate section for the clear No2 of Open Sicilians - the Sveshnikov.

Any views on this?

I am not yet a subscriber to chesspublishing.com but am considering to become one. If so, probably I will go for the three section option to try this out.

So how good are the different sections, considering both quality of updates and existing material (like previous updates and ebooks)?
