USCF and APCT are among the few that continue to push this line.  I recently read an article saying that the Canadian Correspondence Chess Association had followed the ICCF line.  Considerable debate ensued, but, alas, MNb is right: this is impossible to enforce and even difficult to check up on.  ICCF is, as MNb suggests, the standard and they have conceded on this point.  I'm not sure it changes much--uncritical acceptance of Fritz moves can lead to disaster...

Ian, 

Perhaps it would assuage MNb a bit if we could see some of your previous correspondence games.  That way he can check to see how "Fritzy" the games look.  Is that all right with you?

That is not true. ICCF still sets the standard and allows computer analysis.

This means I am not in. It makes no sense to me to set a rule, that is simply asking for fraud.

"books and databases allowed"  appears to be the standard for most of the correspondence chess world.  Yes some databases include previously run chess analysis - such as the "chess analysis project" ratings available in CB, etc.  But, we would disallow using a chess engine to 'solve' the particular position from our game.   

So basically once we get out of the opening and are no longer following any historical games... it becomes "no computers" by default.

We need to define what is "no computers Smiley"? Does it include database access? As a corollary, does it include books?

so, how many do you have?  do you have a volunteer to be captain (someone who simply reports the team move every 2-3 days)?

Well only communicating via PM's seems a tad impractical, so I suggest just opening a thread titled something like the "BDG-Euwe Defense-accelarated Zilbermints-Von Popiel gambit line". That would scare most "spies" off I'd think. Wink

I like the idea, but I wont be able to contribute on a regular basis, so that would mean 5 moves hearing nothing from me and then 5 other moves where you would wish I wasnt there.
  
If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

I can't speak for others, but I'm pretty sure we can get a group of fairly committed (or at least ones that oughta be Wink ) players together.  This forum does attract correspondence players so they're used to long games.  I do have one question though:

Since this is a public forum, how will we keep you from seeing our moves?  Will we have to give our private e-mails out to our teammates?  (It's not a problem, just a question.)

that game is basically over.  we are just waiting for him to resign.  we will be looking to start the next game in the next couple weeks (whenever you or another group tells us you are ready).

i presume you guys will need more than just 2 participants Smiley  ideally you would have 10 or more guys to contribute.  we would like to see that there is a serious committment to finishing a game.
