Well, after 1 d4 d5  2 Nc3 Nf6 3 Bg5 Be7 4 e4 de4 5 f3 ef3 6 Nxf3 e6 play transposes to the Euwe Defense of the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit.

Got to be a skill intensive opening if you can play 3…Be7 and then 6…e6. Grin

Oops! Moving pieces without sight of the board can be a problem.  1 d4 d5 2 Nc3 Nf6  3 Bg5 e6  4 e4 de4 5 f3 ef3 6 Nxf3 Be7

1.d4 d5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Bg5 e6 4.e4 dxe4 5.Ne4 Be7 6.Bxf6 Bxf6 7.Nf3 O-O 8.Bd3 Nd7 9.Qe2 c5 10.O-O-O looks fun. Probably as good a try as anything against the Burn, since black's position is so solid and he'll just sit there 40 moves for the draw.

Craig I think you mix something up. The d4 pawn is already covered twice after Nf3.

PS here a recent game from Wijk aan Zee:
[Event "Corus-A"]
[Site "Wijk aan Zee"]
[Date "2006.01.14"]
[Round "4"]
[White "Leko,Peter"]
[Black "Ivanchuk,Vassily"]
[Result "1/2"]
[Eco "C13"]
1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 dxe4 5.Nxe4 Be7 6.Bxf6 Bxf6 7.Nf3 0-0 8.Qe2 Be7 9.0-0-0 b6 10.Qe3 Bb7 11.Bc4 Nd7 12.d5 exd5 13.Bxd5 Bxd5 14.Rxd5 c6 15.Rd2 Qc7 16.Rhd1 Nc5 17.Nxc5 Bxc5 18.Qe5 Qc8 19.Nd4 Re8 20.Qg3 Re4 21.Qf3 Rxd4 22.Rxd4 Bxd4 23.Rxd4 Qe6 24.Kb1 Re8 25.a3 h6 26.Rd3 Kf8 27.Re3 Qd6 1/2

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

I'm with Viking here - hasn't this just transposed to the Burn Variation of the French?

7.Nxf6+ is no good - the whole point of playing 6.Bxf6 is to allow white to maintain his knight in the centre. As for 7.Bd3??, the refutation has to be the free pawn on d4.
7.c3 or 7.Nf3 are the moves here (the latter defends d4 tactically, viz.: 7...Bxd4?? 8.Nxd4 Qxd4 9.Bb5+! and the queen is won), and to my knowledge the only moves.

Regards,
Craig

Hi people,

after the moves 1.d4 d5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Bg5 e6 4.e4 dxe4 5.Ne4 Be7 6.Bxf6 Bxf6

would you take the bishop with 7.Nxf6? or would you play 7.Bd3? with the idea that if black retreats the bishop then white's development is terrific. I'm playing the last with good results.

Comments please.
