Sorry about the delay in replying to this one, I only just came across this particular thread.
The answer is that yes, I think there are ways in which Black can aim for dynamic positions. One thing I've learned is that in just about every opening, there are ways in which both sides can, at least to some extent, steer the game towards tactical/dynamic or solid/positional play.

Naturally I am talking in relative terms here; 'dynamic play' versus the Maroczy bind is not going to be quite as exciting as the 'dynamic play' one might find in, say, a sharp line in the Najdorf. But playing against the Maroczy certainly does not necessarily have to be as depressing as people sometimes imagine.

As for specific details...you'll just have to wait until the book is published!

I thought I might start another thread anyway. There has some somewhat pessimistic comment in this forum about the difficulty black has of generating winning chances against strong players if white adopts the maroczy bind. One IM described the Accelerated Dragon as the least dynamic sicilian. My question is whether this is fair comment. Certainly if one looks at some of those endgames in the Alburt book Chess Openings for black it seems black is playing for a draw from playable but slightly inferior endgame positions. The problem is I am not sure whether the Nd4 lines are much better from the perspective of chess dynamics. Of course other openings have some fairly dry lines too and there are some fairly sharp lines in the Accelerated Dragon such as the Ng4 lines or the early b6 lines. I assume that Andrew would not write this book if he felt that black could not in practice generate some play. Is that a fair assumption? Andrew here is an early chance to sell your latest book venture!

Incidentally I liked Andrew's first book on the Lopez very much. The praise lavished on that book seems justified.
