Tony if your sys guy is responsible for all these inconveniences, maybe its time to find someone else more committed that takes more pride in their work and takes customer service issues much more seriously.(

No, it's nothing to do with him, it's just the way the new version of the Forum seems to work -  a lot of the add-ons that I added over the years no longer work with the new version, and so we will just have to wait until the programmers update them, I'm afraid.
I must admit I'm also a little disappointed with this new version, but the thing that annoys me is that when I reply to a PM I no longer see the message I'm replying to, unless I remember to click on 'Quote' rather than 'Reply'. Angry
The new version is much more secure, and so we really have to stick with it - perhaps someone can keep an eye on the YaBB forum to see if any of these annoyances get fixed.

Perhaps a sticky in this section with a continuously updated list of "broken" mods would help.

That way, we'd know for what to look whilst being alerted when our favourite mods were fixed.

Kindest regards,

Dragan Glas

One small thing: the forum view seems to switch arbitrarily between two views:
One: glowing dots represent unread threads, solid dots indicate no new info.
Two: old style, orange tick represents unread threads in subforum, blue tick shows no new info in subforum

I have the same:
at work (under Windows) I get the orange ticks and at home (under Linux) I have the glowing dots Huh

Another minor issue: it seems no longer possible to select on the posts in a single thread; you have to navigate 15 at a time.  Usually this isn't a problem, but in some threads, it was handy to be able to call up all the contributions at once...

You can achieve what you want by being a little creative with the URL like this:

http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1193412843;start=all

i.e. just finish with ";start=all"

Also, my email notifications of topic replies now simply say "Topic reply", not what the topic is. Teething trouble?

Looks like it is deliberate. You still get the right info in the message body don't you?

Why is this backwards step deliberate.  The whole purpose of the subject line in emails is to provide useful information about the contents. The subject line which now only says Topic Reply for all Chess Forum emails is now becoming increasingly more and more annoying and unacceptable.

When one is tracking multiple topics, this useless Topic Reply just does not cut it.

Tony if your sys guy is responsible for all these inconveniences, maybe its time to find someone else more committed that takes more pride in their work and takes customer service issues much more seriously.

strange

I think I have worked out why there have been problems with the ChessPublishing emails - when the server was hacked it started spewing out junk mail and the IP address ended up on some blacklists so that many of the emails were blocked with the words 'host 213.166.13.3 blocked for spamming issues.'
Not quite sure the best way of sorting this one out, maybe changing IP address?! Undecided
Incidentally, someone is supposed to be in Telehouse sorting the server out at this very moment.

Tony, the full error message should indicate by which anti-spam organisation it's being blacklisted.

If you can't see any indication of this, then from the server (213.166.13.3) visit the following webpage which automatically checks the known blacklists to see if that IP address is on their lists:

http://whatismyipaddress.com/staticpages/index.php/is-my-ip-address-blacklisted

[Don't do this from a PC, etc, - it will just check that IP address and not the server's one, which is the one you want to check. I'm assuming that the server is on a static IP address!?]

If it is blacklisted - indicated by a red circle - then you need to visit the marked organisations' websites - Spamcop, etc., - and look for information on how to get your server's IP address removed from their blacklist, such as their FAQs, etc.

This may take up to 48 hours.

Kindest regards,

Dragan Glas
ChessPub is back up!
It looks like they restored the wrong back up. The version I am seeing is from way in September.  :o

Oh, sorry. my bad.....I was looking at the Flank Openings section. Forgot it has not been updated in three months.

I too can't access ChessPublishing now, only the Forum. And I haven't had a mail about this. What's going on?

So chesspub is down again. At least this time, I got an email and the forum remains up. But I thought there was a back up server?

Yes that's right, so this change is no problem. I did find, with a post which quoted a prior post by me, that my words hadn't been reproduced, but had been replaced by a load of code. Not a real problem either and it might not even recur -- the real problem is the missing Flank Openings updates!!
