I guess for it to work in another context you'd need a specific set of chess fonts installed ...

That's a technical question that I cannot answer, perhaps Tony or Odd Gunnar will be able to help you with that one.

Next question: what is it in ChessPub Forum that determines that, when I've entered the Fen notation between the two parts of the tag, clicking on 'Preview' causes it to be converted to a diagram? Is there an equivalent such final click that will bring about a similar conversion in other formats, e.g. a Word file or a web page?

When I try doing this, when I click on 'Copy Fen' I just get a 'ping' sound and nothing happens. Why is that?

The ping is normal, it means that the copy has been completed successfully.

If you then right click and select paste on your forum post or in a word document the fen notation should then be copied.

A follow-up for dummies:

I use Chessbase 8.0, german edition.

How can I get this FEN-file out of a stored game to do this magic?

Sorry to ask, but I just use these computers, but don´t understand them. And questions to forum members seem far more reliable than the info given by chessbase.

Lou

When playing through a position using Chessbase 8.0 that you would like to post on the forum in diagram form, follow these steps:

  • In the Menu Bar, Clik on File

  • Then Clik on New

  • Within the New menu, clik on Position

  • Lastly, clik on Copy Fen

Once the above instructions have been carried out successfully you are ready to paste the Fen diagram to the forum. You do this by typing the Tag (Important: Leave out the Question Marks in the example given) [Fen?] paste appropriate fen notation here [/Fen?] and voila, it should be converted to the desired diagram.

Use  the Live Preview option to ensure that you have achieved the expected result.

Let me know whether the above instructions worked for you.

Edit---->Copy--->Copy Position

Then type [.fen] {ctrl-v} [./fen] (but without the dots...if I leave them out, an empty board appears)

With firefox, I see an unremitting field of black (but I do see the white pieces and the white parts of the black pieces). I admit I have my system background set to black (saves on eyestrain) and my foreground to light green.  I suspect that instead of the system default foreground, it puts "black," which is what most of the world uses for a default foreground.  A persistent problem for black-background users.

No, when I switch to XP default desktop settings and restart firefox, I see an all white board.  The pieces look fine but there is are no squares.  Ridiculous.

Does anyone else here use firefox, and have this difficulty???
