Guess it depends what else you have. If, say, you had all of Watson's and then some more recent stuff (e.g. Hansen or Raetsky) then you could cope without Bagirov, but they certainly contain some interesting ideas. As Martin C says the coverage of 1...Nf6 lines is especially welcome, at least until Carsten turns his work into a Gambit trilogy.

I guess that the symetrical book might be less useful if you've got a more modern book on it, but the other book does cover several areas not yet covered in the current generation of the English opening books - the Nimzo english/ english QID, anti grunfelds etc.

I found them quite interesting anyway Smiley

I think they are still valuable. It is decent work, and pretty complete at that time, and lot of valuable proze on how to assess situations.

I saw these two works at a little bookshop and was wondering how they measure up even though they are rather dated? I would be more inclined to read Bagirov's thoughts on the Alekhine then the English given it was a defence he remained faithful too (dreams of Alekhine). Are there any interesting ideas Bagirov touches upon in these two works? Watson's works despite being dated are chalk full of great stuff!
