This comes up every so often. I believe that actually FIDE and USCF ratings are right in line with each other at about the 2200 level, with USCF ratings tending to be higher above and FIDE ratings higher below. Last I was aware, the overall average difference was about 40-50 points, in the direction of USCF being higher. A while back I posted some conversion formulas released some months ago by the USCF ratings committee (based on a study of 8000+ players rated under both systems).
According to a 2006 USCF survey:
"For FIDE rating [between 1800 and] 2200, the converted USCF rating is the same. For FIDE rating between 2200 and 2600, the converted USCF rating is FIDE + (FIDE-2200)/8. For FIDE ratings above 2600, the converted USCF rating is FIDE+50."
Also note, "Even though the formula prescribes that a 2200 FIDE player has a converted USCF rating of 2200, in reality the range of possible USCF ratings for FIDE=2200 can be as low as 1800 and as high as 2450."
This is from a post from the "Chess.com" forum.
My USCF rating is 2005. The chesspublishing.com forum has players at all levels. Take the advice given by previous posters maybe run Fritz or Rybka or whatever if it's appropriate and you should be fine.
