White should hurry up with his capture on e6. This is evidenced by my game against Twan Burg from Vienna Open 2009, r2b18 1-0 (I think in the same round, Sergei Tiviakov played the same line against a German FM.) He came up with a fairly simple concept of 9. Nxe6 fxe6 10. Bc4 Qd7 11. Nb5! and then continued Nd4, Bb3 and pushed the f-pawn. If not 9. Nxe6 Black can simply transpose to known main lines with ...Nxd4, ...Qa5 etc.

I have some basic recommendations against the early knight capture but hang on for those. Yes, they are rather gutsy and not for the lily-hearted... but what do you expect from the Dragon.

In the sunscribion section latest update there is a newly  (played after the article) played Dragon in this line where Tiviakov is having the black pieces. That game became a draw.

After very qucik reading in this short article, he shows some games. In the intoduction text he writes something that white gets a slight edge and too much theory in the main lines so he proposes this system as an alternative line, still claiming a slight edge for white.

However in the article there was a line where he writes black has a good position and stops and by adding a Rybka 3 suggested move black actually appears to be struggeling.

The articles idea is that an exchange on e6 before 0-0-0 black gets accepteble play in fxe6 Bc4 Qc8 line. If white castles, black plays Rc8. If white captures at e6 black places the queen at d7 after fxe6 Bc4.
He thinks that whites best is to wait until black has moves the Queen to a5 before capturing at e6.

EDIT in that book there was also other interesting articles on other openings and I actually tried one of those at internet in several games agianst different opponents and got good positions.

My first inclination is to play 9.0-0-0.  Then 9...0-0 10.Nxe6 fxe6 transposes to a known line that is supposed to be good for White, since White has not yet played g4 weakening f3.  9...Nxd4 10.Bxd4 0-0 transposes into another very theoretical and problematic line.  Maybe Black doesn't have to castle (like 10...a6!?), but I'm not so sure what could be achieved by that.

The immediate 9.Nxe6 fxe6 10.0-0-0 must be critical too, but I assume Tiviakov's idea is to take advantage of Black not having yet castled in that instance and instead put the king on f7 guarding e6, or something like that.

In the new Secrets of Opening Surprises 11 there is, among other stuff, a rare Dragon line included:

http://www.newinchess.com/Shop/Images/PDFs/SOS-11_Engels.pdf

S. Tiviakov proposes 8...Be6 (after 6.Be3 Bg7 7.f3 Nc6 8.Qd2) to avoid main lines. What do you think about this one? Personally, I love main lines and all of the theoretical discussions.
Still, I'm curious about Tiviakov's idea.
