@SteelyDanIII  Thanks for the reminder about the QID set up against 1.Nf3 this might be something to look at.

Thanks everybody...It seems that maybe a future subscription to the Flank section might be a good idea.  And devoting more attention to these openings in general as I they are played against me a lot.

"Fighting the Anti-King's Indians" by Dembo (Everyman) primarily covers various tries by White following 1.d4 Nf6 where White uses an alternate approach besides 2.c4.  Her emphasis is the Kings Indian for Black but she also provides some coverage for Grunfeld players.  Specifically, chapter 11 provides coverage of move order issues for Grunfeld players after 1.c4 and 1.Nf3 while chapter 12 covers the same for KI players.

Thanks...I actually have that book but have not looked at it in a while, may have to take another look!

And Kaufman's rep with 1...g6.

Kaufman recommends 1...g6 against 1.c4  and 1.g3 but not against 1.Nf3. Against 1.Nf3 he recommends both 1...Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d5 and 1...Nf6 2.c4 b6.

If you don't like the Anti-Grunfeld or a Queen's Indian setup and don't want to play 1...c5 that leaves either a King's Indian setup or 1...d5 when you have to be ready for 2.d4 (and White can stay clear of Grunfeld) and 2.c4 as well as 2.g3

I had similar thoughts to TN.  In olden days one might have used as a source Keene's book Flank Openings, which incidentally had some games showing thematic play (for both sides) in the London/New York system.

Yeah I know a good book - the ChessPublishing Flank Opening e-books!  Wink Really, they cover all of White's and Black's important options and if you want more detail you can look at the cited games in the ChessPub Archives.

If you're after a basic system against 1.Nf3/1.g3 you can always play something like a reversed London or Tarrasch setup and pick some master games (old and recent) to study. You should take into account that White can often transpose to the English Opening with an early c4, but if you check your lines with the ChessBase Opening Key you should be able to avoid any major gaps.

Anybody know of any good books dealing with the black side of the English 1.Nf3 and 1.g3

I already have everyman's book and 1...c5 is not my favorite.  And Kaufman's rep with 1...g6.  Looking for some other options and suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!

I play the Grunfeld against 1.d4 and the Sicilian against 1.e4...I like active pieces and dynamic counter attacks.
