Thank you for your tips.

I will try one of this set up next time.
But it could take a while, as it is not very common to face this opening.

I think the most common white set up might be Bd3/Qe2/Nf3. No rush to put the dark squared bishop anywhere really. Certainly it won't always do much on e3.

Havin the c pawn free to go to c3 is useful if black goes for an early d5 when you'll get a French style e5/c3 pawn structure. White's pieces seem to make more logical sense than black's there.

Or they can go for an early c5 which can be met by d5 some of the time, or you can just let them set up a slightly inferior sicillian. To be honest, none of this is terrible for black but I really don't see why it'd be interesting for him.

The setup with Bd3/Nc3/Nge2 is recommended in several books (Bronznik's "1.d4 - Beat the Guerillas" being one of them) and is pretty effective. There are many good options against Owen's Defence though - that's just one of them. I would avoid playing c4, since that transposes to the English Defence, which has a slightly better reputation for Black.

This would tend to transpose to either Owen's Defense (1. e4 b6 2. d4 Bb7, when 3. Bd3 and 3. Nc3 are major moves) or the English Defense (if White plays c4).

Hello,

So far after 1. d4 e6 I play 2 e4.  It is not that often that you can have "total" center control, so if black allows me to take it, I grab it!

My results are pretty good against Pirc/modern with the 150 attack, fairly balanced against French defense, but I have problems after b6.

So far I play Nf3/Nc3/Be3/Bd3, thinking it cannot be bad... but my results are pretty poor, and worse, most of the time the game is boring : I do not manage to get a good attack.

I checked in a book. Strangely enough, they talk about e4/d4 against the French defense, about d4/c4 against e6/b6, but not at all about e4/d4 against e6/b6

Do you have a simple plan against this set-up? Especially I consider pushing c4 (or, why not, f4, which however seems doubtful).

Thank you for your advice,
Mani
