I downloaded the Alekhine Defense, followed the link to a game and played through it. One can also do "what-if" analysis or consider engine analysis. I think this is a very complete PDF-based chess solution.

Because the file was downloaded to my computer, it is permanently available.

PGN is available for an alternative, or complimentary, approach.

After downloading the Alekhine Defense, I saw that it was last updated on March 12th 2026. It would be nice to see the date, for the Alekhine specifically, prior to downloading. I would only download it if I saw that it was newer than a previous download version.

Playing through a position on the board leads to a revised set of articles as mentioned before on this thread. I just noticed that clicking on the "Games" gives the most recent games based upon the position on the board. Very neat.

FreeRepublic - I've also been wondering how to interpret the update information displayed on the new site. I think the list to the right of the board shows the updates in chronological order, with the most recent at the top. The "Latest Updates" section further down the page is less clear to me. At first, I thought the twelve items listed corresponded to the twelve sections on Chess Publishing. However, I then noticed that a couple sections (Daring Defences and Open Games) were duplicated, while Flank Openings and 1.e4 were not shown at all. 

One other thing: a short list of new updates used to be displayed in the header section of the forum. However, that area has been blank since the launch of the new website. Perhaps updating the header is a lower priority item. At any rate, I found it useful since I check out the forum daily.  With the old setup, I would be able to see any updates that had been posted without having to go to the Chess Publishing site itself..

Along with the login issue, it addressed my confusion about what happened to the position search feature. I'm glad to see that the message also indicated the team is open to suggestions. Tony - Thanks for the explanation. The position search on the database page works well and closely resembles the same function on the old site. I now seem to recall trying out that database page during the beta testing. Perhaps that's why I didn't have any concerns about doing position searches on the new site. I got confused when my Position Search bookmark landed on the new Check Your Games page. 

One other item about the new site: I wasn't able to log in at first since my previous password didn't seem to work. With the old site I had always logged in with a username and password, and the new site asks for email and password. I tried without success to log in with both username and email, and ended up changing my password with the "Forgot Password?" link. It's no big deal, but I thought I'd mention it if the login process isn't working as intended.

Looking forward to seeing the material that will aid us in using the new site more efficiently!
