I agree with everything Paddy wrote about videos, but I also recognize many people think videos are The Way.

Maybe create a chesspublishing youtube channel and after an appropriate delay put Simon's videos there. And perhaps give Simon a cut of any subscriptions via youtube.

I emailed support earlier this month with some feedback - no reply yet. 

As a long-time subscriber I'd like to comment on the changes to Chess Publishing.

I really like the new interface and the extra features but to be honest, for me the videos don't represent a huge amount of value added. Simon is a great presenter, but even in retirement I find I simply don't have time to watch more than a handful of them. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this way.

The information overload in modern chess is enormous and there are just too many other information sources competing for our attention. Also these videos must be taking up a lot of Simon's time and it would be a great pity for his efforts not to be fully utilised.

Watching a video is a relatively inefficient way to absorb information - the annotated games in PGN are far more efficient and for me they represent the core of what makes a subscription so worthwhile!

My suggestion therefore would be to limit the videos to one game per update, maybe the most impressive or the most theoreticlly important game, as chosen either by the section annotator or by Simon himself.

What do other subscribers think?

Firstly, i have to say I am loving the new site and all the new functionality, although I am still learning how to best use all the features. I particularly love how user friendly the site is to use on my phone now.

I do have one question, I have noticed that some of the pgn updates that I have downloaded recently don't contain all the annotations that the same games contain when viewed on the website. Is this a conscious decision or just a glitch?

I thought I should mention that all previous subscribers are actually entitled to a reduced price on the new site. However, we don't want to send out emails to anyone that hasn't subscribed in the past year or so, as it starts to look like spam. So, if any former subscriber is interested in subscribing again they should email support@chesspublishing.com for the exact details. Smiley

I discovered that I can download several games at once from the week in chess (TWIC) using the Chess Publishing website. Games can be selected by position, date, etc. prior to download. I never saw this functionality at the TWIC website itself. This is a terrific increase in capabilty.

Couple other ideas:

It would be great if there was a URL-based API to send a position and open the ChessPub database, similar to pasting the FEN in the search but via a URL.  This would allow us to add search in other applications to send a position and open the database page in chesspub to see what chesspub files exist for that position without needing to cut and paste the fen.  From other tools we could implement a "search ChessPub."

I would love it if ChessPub eventually had the ICCF correspondence archive as an option for a games database so we could search those games directly in the chesspub interface, similar to the implementation of the TWIC database.

Love the new and improved site and database functions/GUI!  This is fantastic.  I'll be making extensive use of the new feature(s).  Cool

Suggestion/request:  Consider adding ChessDB evals as an option, similar to Lichess Cloud.  ChessDB is really the best cloud database of evals, as the evals are min-maxed through the tree and the tree is continuously expanding (and users can influence this by feeding positions from analysis or games to the ChessDB queue).  The API is free and easy to use.  https://www.chessdb.cn/cloudbookc_api_en.html

That is a definite plus.

I downloaded the Alekhine Defense, followed the link to a game and played through it. One can also do "what-if" analysis or consider engine analysis. I think this is a very complete PDF-based chess solution.

Because the file was downloaded to my computer, it is permanently available.

PGN is available for an alternative, or complimentary, approach.

After downloading the Alekhine Defense, I saw that it was last updated on March 12th 2026. It would be nice to see the date, for the Alekhine specifically, prior to downloading. I would only download it if I saw that it was newer than a previous download version.

Thanks. I didn't know there was a changelog until you mentioned it.

Playing through a position on the board leads to a revised set of articles as mentioned before on this thread. I just noticed that clicking on the "Games" gives the most recent games based upon the position on the board. Very neat.

A bit more on updates: I received an email from Chess Publishing today listing the latest updates: Flank Openings May 2026 (18 May 2026), Daring Defences: April 2026 (15 May 2026), and Dragons: March 2026 (13 May 2026). These are the top three entries in the "Latest Updates" section of the new site, reading left to right and then down. Going further, the order of updates given in the changelog for the site

It works! Yes indeed, very neat. It took me directly to the critical article and game.
