Thank you all for the warm welcome and the insights!

@Lauri Torni - 50 years of chess is impressive, that's real dedication. I'm curious how the game has changed for you over the decades, especially with engines and online play becoming so dominant.

@GMTonyKosten - makes sense about the shift to other platforms. I think there's still something special about dedicated chess forums though, the depth of discussion here feels different from social media.

@cathexis - I'll definitely dig through the archives, thanks for the tip. Looking forward to more discussions here.

Tony,

Another reason for it being quieter might be that, if you truely prowl the archives of the site, you can often find your answers that way.

Yes, the Forum has brief flurries of interest from time-to-time, but is not nearly as animated as it was many years ago. I suppose that is due to the rise of so many other forms of online social interaction.

Hi,

I have played chess since being 10, almost 50 years. Last 20 years I have played only blitz and mainly online.

I have followed this forum a long time. It is nowadays rather silent. Now and then some topic arouses interest and some discussion takes place.

Regards
Lauri Torni

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking around ChessPub for a while and finally decided to introduce myself. I'm from Pakistan and have been playing chess casually for years - mostly online, occasionally over the board with friends.

I'd love to hear from others here: what got you into chess seriously, and do you prefer playing online or OTB? I find online play convenient but there's something about a physical board that online just can't replace.

Looking forward to being part of the discussions here!
