This was 8 years ago (I've just looked up the game in my DB). I can't remember exactly my feelings at the time. Its a little incongruous and I did find it rather fascinating to watch him with the touch set, which probably meant I wasn't concentrating on my moves.

I think it's wonderful that chess has so few barriers.

What about ambidextrous players? They can play both 1.e4 and 1.d4 Smiley.

I'd give my left arm to be ambidextrous.

I've never had the experience of playing a blind player; however, Braille Chess Association are currently locked in a battle with my 4NCL club's first team for the second promotion spot from Division 4 - their strongest fully blind player is nearly 2200 and as strong as almost anyone in the division.

I'm not sure how I'd react to the experience; I'd imagine if you've never done it before, it might be a little unnerving to have to call out your moves etc. How did you find it?

Most importantly, what about the blind? Don't tell me that chess isn't suitable for the partially-sighted...  Wink

I've played a blind player once. Completly blind, he was using a touch set and clock I had to call out my moves. He was around 2000 FIDE. He was outplaying me, but then missed my mate in 1 threat.

Perhaps the odd thing is, I was initially inclined to regard it as an April 1st gag, but then decided to "give it the benefit of the doubt" (hey, it was posted on April 2 [board time] and was more plausible than some of the stuff posted here   Tongue    ).  But really, the fact that it was posted by one who has always struck me as approximately the voice of reason should have been the decisive variation in my analysis ...

So yeah, good one.

Sorry, sometimes it's hard to tell in an online forum whether someone is serious or not.  English could be your second language, you could live in Antarctica, etc.

Anyway, excellent joke LeeRoth!  I was wondering what April Fools' Day pranks might turn up around here...

As many of today's GMs are right-handed, this may help to explain why, subconsciously, the minority attack has gone out of fashion.

... Recently, a group of Russian scientists announced that they've been studying this phenomenon for application to other pursuits, including as a test subject, chess.  I'll spare you the scientific details, but they basically showed through repeated cohort studies that people with dominant right eyes play better and find tactics more easily on the right side of the board, while lefties naturally do better on the left side....

I suspect that it is no coincidence that this this was posted on April 1.  Grin

If so, nice one!  Cool

If this was a serious post, well, er, oops....  Embarrassed

Huh?  I'll venture to theorize that most GMs of every era have been right-handed.  Is there some reason to think that the percentage of left-handed GMs has been declining?
