Things don't look too good for black. after 4. e4! White scores heavily (above 65%) after 4...Bb4 5. Bd3/ Bg5 and 4...Bb7 5. f3/Bd3. Unfortunately, the QID is meant to be played in conjunction with the Nimzo or Benoni, not by itself as it allows 4. e4! If you don't like the prospects of a benoni where White can still play the Mikenas or Taimanov lines, there are plenty of Nimzo lines where Black can play b6 and Bb7, but not immediately after 3. Nc3. If you don't like either Nimzo-Indian or Benoni, you could always transpose to a QGD or Semi-Slav after 3...d5

Okay...let's say black enjoys the QID but dislikes the Nimzo...

1.d4 Nf6 c4 e6 Nc3 b6!?

Is anything known about this move?  Does theory say that this is an acceptable alternative?  The difference is obviously that white can play e4! now...but perhaps the center can be effectively attacked?

Thoughts anyone?
