Thanks for the replies.  The Jaques site doesn't have a way to order stuff from their website so it will take me a while to get their catalog in the mail since I live in the States.  I fount this on eBay, it isn't exactly what I want but it's a nice set for under $100:

The offered LINK is not from JAQUES!!!

The ORIGINAL JAQUES chess pieces you find here:

I got a nice set for less than $20 over a year ago from
http://store.convekta.com/shop_model.asp. It was a Staunton 6 with a King of 100mm I think. It a really nice set and it shipped within 2 weeks,

it has a nice weight and feel to it.

There are some nice sets around for silly money, that I can put to better use

Best wishes in the hunt Grin

Question about Jaques Chess Sets

Hello, with scholastic chess around the corner I want to buy myself a nice chess set and folding wooden board (with labeled ranks and files) and my opponent at PA State Champs had a very nice Jaques Chess Set.  I asked him how much it was and he said that his parents got it for less then $200 for a graduation present.  So when I got home I started to look for this set and I see them as $700-1100 dollars, his set was real (had a staunton certificate of some sort inside the box).  Am I missing something?  Is there a cheaper Jaques-style chess set that looks like the real thing that I just can't find for some reason?  Any help would be great, thanks Smiley
