Thank yolu for answering your own question  Smiley
I was not able look  deeper into the topics and not an opening expert with the variations

I just received the DVD. Much annotations seem to be in german, which I can barely understand. Is there a language function somewhere to switch language?

To answer my own question, 5. Bf4 is covered well by Kasparov. I was glad he actually mentioned the messy line with the White pawn on c7 (see Miton-Vaganian, Leitao-Milos 2004) which I've investigated with some interest.

So far I've only viewed the 5. Bf4 chapter and it seems promising. The question that was the subject of the thread "pig ignorant question" seems to be answered by kasparov.  There are annotations on the DVD on Kasparov-Beliavsky.

And also how is the coverage of the 5. Bf4 variation?

I think this is the sternest test of the queen's gambit (yes, Bf4! is much stronger than Bg5).

What I am curious about, is the quality of the annotated games on the database. There seems to be some games annotated by Kasparov himself according to some screen shots I've seen.

How are the annotations and database theory?

I was disappointed by this DVD.

Compared to the videos (german language) by Kindermann there are two major complaints about the DVD:

Kasparov needs very often a lot of time to find the right words, which are very often simple words like queenside, kingsside. So it is sometimes very exhausting to follow.

At the end of variations he is often very fast in clicking forward, so that it is impossible to follow the lines.
(this point is better, when you are looking at the DVD via ChessBase Media System instead with a normal DVD-player,because you can also see the notation of the moves). When he gives the next moves (Plan) without clicking he often is extremely fast.

The coverage of the theory is on the surface, but this is normal due to time constraints. The commented games are interesting, but again I was a little bit disappointed.

As an bonus you have a game database and all the advantages of a database.

Well, I quite liked it. The database is extensive, but the stuff with GK talking was necessarily less so. For instance, in the section on the Alatortsev variation after 3...Be7 I was expecting him to at least mention his 5...Nf6 as played against Topalov in 1997, as this is the move that both Sadler and Janjgava prefer in their QGD books, and which scores better (and is generally more interesting to play for Black) but he instead devotes a whole 'chapter' to the Alatortsev lines beginning with 5...c6, going into some detail on one of his games with Karpov. Anyway, it's well worth the money IMHO, but don't expect too many recommendations for it;s more of an overview. Another example - in the Tartakower, one of the main lines after 11.b4 c6 winds up with 14.Ne5!? which, according to Romero (see Gambit book Creative Chess Strategy) causing Black some difficulties - nothing major, but as a relatively recent development it would have been nice to hear GK's thoughts on this.
Still, what is there is enjoyable.
Hope this helps.

Hello,

Just started listening to DVD, early parts are giving an overview of different lines. Think will be more details later, when Kasparov analysis some important games. The opening book is a database, with annotations by Kasparov and others.

Kasparov just did a DVD with Chessbase on the Queen's Gambit.

Anyone seen this? Opinions please!

Chessbase says it comes with a "complete opening book". Does this mean it's a normal opening book with annotations etc (by Kasparov?) or is it a database for the software (fritz etc) only?
