I don't mind endings here (in fact I love endings) but would you mind, gentlemen, to provide a diagram so the ROTW knows what you are talking about? THANKS

By the way, I showed the position to my wife (to see if she could find the win) and with minutes she found an alternative way!

Starting Out: Pawn Endings ex 149 p104
1...Ne4 2 Nxe4 fxe4 3 Ke2 e5!? 4 f5 Kd6 5 Kf2 Ke7 6 Ke3 (6 Ke2 Kf6-+) 6...Kf7 7 Kxe4 Kf6 8 Ke3 Kxf5 9 Kd3 Kf6 10 Kc4 e4 11 Kd4 Kf5 12 Ke3 Ke5 13 Ke2 Kd4 14 Kd2 e3+ 15 Ke1 Kd3 16 Kd1 e2+ 17 Ke1 Kd4! the same theme.

It's always a problem analyzing endgame material, if you overlook something in the opening or middlegame, it generally makes a slight difference to the assessment, whereas in the endgame it's half-a-point and egg on your face!

Hi!

I've had a look and I must admit...you are right!

So this means that 1...Ne4 is in fact best.

I am a 2100+ player who has been a GOLD PLUS member for a few years.  I have a question for GM Flear.  I have read ALL of the Flear STARTING OUT books.  In PAWN ENDINGS, example 149 Durao-Lopez: in the 1. . . Ne4 variation, doesn't 10 . . . Kd4 win?  (I apologize in case the question is inappropriate for this forum.)
???
