We're the only ones to beat the Germans on their home tournament. And no I am born in 76 and we took revenche in 88 No officially not yet, but with 4 points up to the Czechs and an away match against them and a home match against Macedonia it shouldnt pose a problem. Usually we only screw up such odds when playing in the final or on penalties

	@Willempie- I have a suspicion that Alumbrado might be talking abt the England-Holland game in Euro 96. England won 4-1.

	I'm afraid I can't speak for most Canadians, because I did grow up playing soccer, but I also grew up in Vancouver, which is rather un-Canadian insofar as it has a very mild (albeit wet) climate. We played year-round, and I've been horrified to discover--having recently moved to Ontario--that the season runs only from May to August or September. It's hard to cultivate any real interest among children in so short a season. I don't think Canadians mind cold bottoms, though I suspect that this might be an interesting example of the Scotch-Irish--rather than English and French--influence coming through. In addition, remember that the English influence was typically upper class through military endowments (particularly in British Columbia), and cricket was a bigger game than soccer. All these are rather sad explanations, mind you. Hockey has become such a predominant sport among boys, though, that its popularity has probably drawn talented athletes to that sport. And out of national pride, I feel constrained to challenge MNb to a game of outdoor chess sometime in January... in Ottawa...

I think that's why curling is one of Canada's main national pasttimes, along with hockey of course. Well, if we can play here in Sweden, surely the Canadians would be able to scare off most of the polar bears and get some games played during the summer!
