and the fatal 0-1 FA Cup Final against Sunderland was in '73, but Leeds fans probably better remembers the '72 final: 1-0 against Arsenal (by a great head shot by Alan Clarke late in the match), bringing "The Double" to Leeds, which was only the second time a team had won The Double (as a Tottenham supporter I have to add that Tottenham were the first in '61).

That's the 64 cent question.  I think that the Reds have pretty much shown that we can survive without a world class central defender (a good second stringer would be nice) but we can't rely on Cisse, much less Morientes to provide enough goals.  We've only scored two goals in the last four regulation games.  (Two goals in extra time today were nice!)   

Now that we've traded Baros and Newcastle has picked up a striker, Owen has only one place to go, and Madrid will lower its asking price a bit.  (17M Pounds for sale after a year of sitting on the bench @ 8M Pounds transfer fee from L'Pool should suggest that Madrid is asking too much.)

Liverpool wins the Super Cup!!!

Okay, it's not the most important trophy in Europe, but hey, it's a win against a quality side!   

Now, let's see.  Liverpool is still in the Champions' League (with a difficult draw in group play), obviously one of the favorites in the Premiership, and candidates for other trophies such as the F.A.  We're also looking to sign Michael Owen who is even better than Cisse, who had a great game today!

Oh yes! I do agree abt Chelsea being full of talent. I Never said that there wasnt. Neither did i catch the community shield for the want of cable TV.  Eversince the local TV network was privatised, EPL & other sports  which I enjoy like F1, Cricket, Rugby, & Snooker  hv been stopped and now only cable TV shows them 

But looking at last season's performances w/o Robben, Chelsea were really like the Greeks!! 0-0, 1-0 type of scorelines despite the presence of that exciting Duff and others. They only became pretty lively when Robben returned from injury & then the goals started coming!! When he got injured again, Chelsea were back to square one. It cannot be denied however that Mourinho has REALLY tightened things up at the back. Before Mourinho they leaked goals galore! Another factor which contributes to their rapid rise is of course the $$ of Abramovic. I'm not sure of the coverage of football in the States, but down here there's a lot of heated debates in the papers by sports journalists, ex footballers local or international about Abramovic & his $$ spoiling the sport etc. With his $$ Chelsea can buy the whole Galacticos from Real Madrid & they might be unstoppable!

Which brings to mind another point - the influx of foreigners into England. Liverpool in the past only had English , Scots , Welsh & Irish (basically British) & they were dominant. Now just about every English team has a majority of foreigners in the 1st team!! (look at Chelsea)Which brings to mind somemore questions - Is the talent pool in Britain drying up that foreigners hv to be brought in?? Or for the want of instant success big name stars are brought in, thus keeping out the talented locals esp youth.  I personally see this as the beginning of a vicious cycle for football.
