My favourites just beat your 2nd favourites in the qualification race for UEFA.

The top team beaten in the 70's was Juventus indeed.
Of course the unforgettable Epi Drost was the first "inschuivende laatste man" ever, a kind of a superior version of Ronald Koeman. You can notice, where Ajax borrows its good ideas. Aah, nostalgy ...

Oh Mnb I am wondering which team it is you support. It isnt one of the "big" three and your reference to the 70s makes me think it may be Twente. Iirc they did reach the UEFA finals after beating a top team (Juventus or Madrid would have to look that up somewhere).

Yeps as the idiot (one of the silly rotterdam fans) wanted double or nothing for the CL spot.
It will be a fun match wednesday. Groningen will throw anything they can at us and they have the home advantage (and they have massive results there). On the other hand some of the attacks of Ajax lately reminded me of how they played in the past. So methinks the neutral watcher is in for a treat, while for the others it may well become a nailbiter.

Indeedy! Result really made my day this morning. So, it looks at least on paper that the CL place is very much in hand. Lets hope the defense holds up during the 2nd leg.

Quite really.....the final score should be 4-0 at least. That would really have secured the CL spot.

A win against Groningen would be very very nice. To book a place in nxt yrs CL would be a nice consolation to an otherwise disappointing & difficult season. Lets hope things turn out much much better next year.....like winning the Eredivisie for starters!! Cheesy

Newcastle certainly did well to reach the upper half of the premiership so far after a dismal start. As i said before....they would do much much better w/o Souness!! Angry

Abt Spurs.... Its really nice to see them doing well. A 4th place finish on the cards is really good & refreshing after so many yrs of misery. Let's see if Jol can be as successful as Nicholson or Burkinshaw.

Well the way this season is going I think getting to the CL will still be tough. Groningen certainly isnt a cakewalk.

It will be Groningen vs Ajax for the CL spot. A nice walkover with 2-4 by Ajax or to put it in plain dutch: voetballes Cool

Now back to the premiership. Hopefully Tottenham can keep 4th, certainly after Whiner's comments.
