I agree with that. Alas I only have seen and heard fragments of Cream on stage; but I found it very impressive. Is this video the same version of Crossroads as on the Wheels on fire album?

Not sure. But the version I have on the Cream of Clapton CD (also a live Cream recording) had a different guitar theme, the video version had the overall tempo upped a notch or two & the guitar solo was much more aggressive imo.
Made my CD version sound 'mild'.

Same here, unless you invest in those computer speaker systems which consist of  a sub woofer and a built in amplifier + 2 smaller speakers. Since Im not interested in spending a 100++ bucks, I just listen with my Aiwa earplugs.

Is this video the same version of Crossroads as on the Wheels on fire album? I have to download a newer version of Macromedia .... first, before I can enjoy it. Well, enjoy - the sound my computer produces is terrible.

I just couldnt resist posting this video link:

Cream really kicksbutt in this live performance (sounds better than the recorded version imo) Then again....its their live performances which really wowed the crowds rather than their recordings.

Its a pity ol' clapton doesnt play with such raw aggression anymore. His best days were definitely his cream & Derek & the Dominoes days. Nowadays his efforts seem too 'safe' including the Cream reunion 2005 at the Royal Albert Hall. Age perhaps playing a part.

A friend of mine (who followed Cream fanatically in their day) is adamant that as soon as Clapton hung up his Les Paul and starting playing a Strat it all went downhill.... I can see his point, in terms of Clapton's career.  Personally I prefer a Les Paul sound as well (although I'm really a Telecaster man), but then it depends of course on what these guys do with the tone - and Eric just seems to have lost all intent. I haven't heard his new album, to be fair, but then I'm not a big fan of his (not even the 'Beano'album) - I prefer Stevie Ray Vaughan (and I think Eric would approve of this!) in this arena of the guitar gods.  Now if playing with SRV didn't inspire Eric to up the ante in his own recorded output then I don't know what would.   Wink

Clapton spent about a decade from the late 70s to about 1990 in a drug-induced haze.  He has since gone clean, and his blues albums are very appealing.  His Unplugged album has some very bright moments.

Clapton's songs may be imitated, but his style, like B.B. King or any other great guitarist, is instantly recognisable and unique.  While I don't listen to his music as much as others (Keb Mo, for instance, has some great guitar work), I do recognise his tremendous talent and more importantly I salute his tremendous contributions to music.

Cream was classic!8)  After Cream came Derek & the Dominoes of which only Layla was the best known song sung by Clapton. When Clapton went solo, have to say he wasnt too inspiring apart from 'I shot the sheriff' tho not as good as Bob Marley's version.

His 'unplugged' album imo just featured him spending more time mumbling rather than singing. Tongue

Since Cream, almost 40 years ago, Clapton's career has been uninteresting. Even in Cream Clapton imo played a minor role - Bruce and Baker were more important.
