The amount of theory does give a clue as to the 'richness' of the position. So escaping the bulk of theory also means going for 'poorer' positions, I think (now).

In my experience, by doing so you are cutting down the types of positions you get as well, and this may cause your play to grow kind of stale...
I like diversity within the openings I play...

Limiting other player's options

Is there any merit to the idea of cutting down theory by choosing openings that limit your opponent's responses, like QGA, Scandinavian, and the Scotch or KG?
