Yugoslav Dragon (with 9.0-0-0)

I'd be willing to take on Black's side of the dragon after 9.0-0-0 d5.  Caveats: I don't play the absolute main line; I also wouldn't be able to post a move every day...closer to an average of two days per reply, especially since I don't have much theory stored up to unleash; and, I'm not a particularly experienced corr. player.  Feel free to start a thread if you're interested.

There are others more qualified than I to take up the white side of this line.  However, if there are no other takers I'm glad to do it - if nothing else it will be a great opportunity to dig deeply and learn more about this opening.  I've got a few things going on right now, but will try to start a game thread in a week or so.  Should someone else take up the challenge in the meantime, I will be sure to participate.  Thanks.

Cheers,
Ostap

I think I'll defer to Scholar.  I'm already engrossed in a Caro with Willempie, and still on the fence as to whether the Blumenfeld is really for me or whether I'm drawn to it because it is so different from the rest of my repertoire.  (I'm sucker for the unorthodox, much to my detriment...).  I will, however, be an interested and willing contributor...

Blumenfeld?  If HgMan is still considering those lines, there would be at least two players for the Black side, myself included...

I'd play the White side, if only to find out what's going on.  I'm no expert on the Blumenfeld except to say that I once beat an Hungarian master out of the opening.  I made a terrible gaffe, but he didn't notice and I was lucky enough to take advantage of the situation.

How about it, HgMan and Scholar?

I'd certainly look in on a game in the dragon even in a variation I didn't play, if someone else prefers to taken on Black's task.

HgMan-Willempie have started their game discussing the Advanced Caro:

http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1151070318

I'd be interested in, and will try to contribute to, a similar game in any of the following lines:

Sicilian Sveshnikov (any 9.Bxf6 or 9.Nd5 line, but earlier deviations (e.g. 7.Nd5) are also interesting)

Sicilian Najdorf/Scheveningen lines with Bc4

Yugoslav Dragon (with 9.0-0-0)

Ruy Lopez, Marshall Attack (the 15.Qf3 line mentioned by Smyslov_Fan looks interesting)
http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1150397393

Ruy Lopez, Zaitsev Variation

Modern Benoni (especially Taimanov/Flick Knife line, but others are also interesting)

Scandanavian Icelandic Gambit (this one might be too marginal to generate sufficient interest, though).

Semi-Slav Moscow or Botvinnik Variation

The Veresov Attack (this one also might be too marginal to generate sufficient interest)

So we are a little stuck ...

I was aware that dragon players are theoryphiles, but isnt analysing until move 9000 a bit too much even for you guys? Grin

Right again.  But I see a logistic difficulty in getting started.  We could wind up with a number of new threads that offer challenges in a particular line with no response (witness my Caro challenge...).  Perhaps we can arrange the games here, so that the new threads mark established games, rather than open challenges...

Again, good idea HgMan!

Or, as a series of commercials say:

BRILLIANT!

It would be great to see numerous games going on here at the same time!  As long as a couple of members start a game in a topical variation I'm sure others will contribute analysis from time to time.  And even if they don't the players will learn something and more discussion may follow later.

as Black:
Caro-Kann Advance 3. e5 Bf5 4. Nc3 e6 5. g4 Bg6 6. Nge2 Nge7 (perhaps not the best line for Black, but a line which i studied for some time), Sicilian Taimanov, or French Classical 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bg5;
as either colour:
Slav Marshall/Noteboom (really want to get to the bottom of this, and i suspect some titled players here will be interested too)
Some of these lines are not in my repertoire for OTB play, but i like to look at the theory of these variations.

Inn2: Is there a particular QID line you would like to examine?  I'm not especially partial to lines with ... Ba6, but would be happy to explore ... Bb7 after either a3 or g3.  My general preference, though, would be to repond with 1 d4 2 Nf6 2 c4 e6 3 Nf3 c5.  Your fourth could take us into a variety of options.  Naturally I would be happy to follow on from your fourth...

I like Smyslov_Fan's idea, but Frendo's right: we only need one thread per game.

I'd be willing to take the Black side of the Nimzo, Semi-Tarrasch, or Caro-Kann...

I know this last post was directed at Inn2, but just wanted to say I think having 3 separate threads for the same game seems a little extreme and unecessary.  I still like the way it was done before where there were 2 primary players who had the final decisions on what moves were played, but anyone could contribute analysis to either side.  And since we're trying to get closer to the truth of the matter why would we want to disallow computers?  (something that you mention is unenforcable anyway)

Inn,

I think you might be right about the Slav Noteboom.  I don't mind taking the White side if you want the Black side.  If we're going to do this as teams of analysts, I suggest the following:

We create three different threads in the Slav section:

A) The game thread, in which anyone can comment

B) White's game thread, in which players are honor-bound to play only for White

C) Black's game thread, ditto.

I also suggest that we can use databases but not playing programs.  Of course, this is optional and impossible to enforce, but I'd like to see humans deal with the position.

What do you think?
