I believe the reason why BCF ratings weren't published was that they wanted to make money by selling printed rating lists. But shortly before I finished university in the UK they were talking about changing that and it actually seems to have happened now: http://grading.bcfservices.org.uk/.

Right, that works, thanks.

(I was going to say something in Swedish, but don't know how to write the a with the little circle on top; the ASCII codes don't seem to [reliably] work with this software   Angry)

You can look up a certain player at http://www.schackcentralen.com/ There are four columns. On the third from the left there are fields called "efternamn eller förnamn" and "klubb (fritext)". Type the name in the first field. Not full namne.

Typing "agrest" gives:

namn: agrest
klubb:
distrikt:
rating: 700 - 2850

SPELARE RATING PARTIER KLUBB
Evgenij Agrest    2684 download Sollentuna SK
  Svetlana Agrest   2289  Sollentuna SK
  Roman Agrest    2060  Sollentuna SK
  Inna Agrest    1967  Sollentuna SK
  Anton Agrest    1304  Sollentuna SK

Typing "Evgenij" gives

namn: Evgenij
klubb:
distrikt:
rating: 700 - 2850

SPELARE RATING PARTIER KLUBB
Evgenij Agrest    2684 download Sollentuna SK
  Jevgenij Kravtsenko    1410  Sollentuna SK

Don't check me with no lightweight stuff.

I was wondering if there is a way to look up Swedish ratings (LASK?  Vad betyder det egentligen?) online.  I took a glance at the federation website, but it wasn't apparent to me how to do it (even though I can read Swedish) ...

LASK stands for Lunds Akademiska Schack Klubb, which is the club that started the swedish rating system. Simply put, the system has three columns wins / draws / losses and the rating difference to the left of each e.g: if you draw with someone who has 0-10 points more or less you get 0 rating points and win/loss is +/- 16 ; diff 11-33 you get 15 points for beating a worse player and 17 for beating a better and +/- 1 point for drawing etc etc down to 500 points difference when you 31 for beating an heffalump and 1 for picking a blueberry,  +/- 15  for a draw.

That sounds similar to the old US system (it's somewhat different now), which was basically 16 points for a win, adjusted up or down by 4% of the rating difference.  But I am wondering about how to look up a particular player's LASK rating.  I believe I read that the British federation doesn't put their rating list online for some reason; I wonder if it could be the same with you lot (as the Brits would say).
