Free at last!  Smiley

I.e. I have finally approved the FRG! It's available at http://www.lulu.com/content/299759

(Most likely there'll also be a hardcover edition in a couple of weeks, for those who thinks that's worth the 10 bucks extra in printing cost...)

Josef Ask played 2.b3 against Joel Ĺkesson in Spiltan Pelaro yesterday. Draw. Josef probably was happy about the first half point after five rounds. Opening looked okay, I think.

This seems like a reasonable enough surprise weapon against the French....just offbeat enough to slip under black's radar.

I would surely give it the occasional punt.

Postscript: I saw some copies of The Fascinating Kings Gambit on sale at the Olympiad. I had no idea it was such a thick book, must have been a huge undertaking. What was really selling like hot cakes though was Magnus Carlsen's - Wunderkind...at least I think that was the title, it certainly helped sales that Magnus was in fine form in Turin, unlike Tiger Hillarp who got crushed in his match against Jamaica using his Tigers Modern...that certainly didnt boost his book sales too much. On a positive note Tiger's opponent in that game went on to earn his Fide Master title...congrats to Christo Cave and a loud shout out to the entire Jamaican posse.  Smiley

Wow, nice scalp!  Smiley

Actually, I didn't think that Qg4 is right against Ng8, as Nh6-f5 seemed good for black. So instead, I looked at other ways of using the tempo gained. But maybe I was wrong?!
- I suppose I might have been concerned about a possible Nc6/f5-d4 at some point...

Anyway, I just finished the re-formating to a pure 6"x9" (which resulted in an extra 20 pages - as Word had somehow changed the settings to 'a4' earlier...) a few minutes ago. So, if everything goes alright with uploading etc and the proof print looks fine - it could be available sometime next week.

(Btw, there might perhaps also be a more expensive hard cover edition - though that would probably take an extra week at the printers for the proof print and depend on what kind of quality they offer...)

Today I beat an IM at playchess with the Reti gambit! He played the variation with 3. ... Nf6 and I followed TalJechin's advice to stay flexible very long because black has no clear counterplay.

Just an update for those waiting (for some reason I haven't been able to log in to update my site the last few days). Due to some unforeseen formatting problems I may need to redo the whole layout - which may take some time...  Cry

My proofprint seems to be delayed by an overworked printer in Europe, so it might take 1-2 weeks more before I see it.  Cry

Anyway, as the subtitle of the book is A Fun Anti-French! I decided to post the following two blitz games I played yesterday in two consecutive games against different players.

Though far from perfect, the games sure entertained me at least...  Smiley

Well, originally I was intending a more 'illustrational game approach' but ended up in a variation tree though it's containing more full games than usual. Except for the sections on 3...Nf6 & 5.Qg4 which is mainly illustrative games ordered by a variation tree. Play is slower there, so it didn't make sense with the usual tree. White has a wide choice of plans/set-ups depending on preference and placement of especially Nb1-a3/c3 and Qg4-h3/g3. What gives white's plans some bite is usually black's lack of counter-play - so the most effective for white is to keep several ideas possible for as long as possible and choosing between them depending on what set-up black chooses.

I've never heard of  2.b3 against  1...e6 before this. In fact i'm quite intrigued already. Definitely looks like  it promises a more interesting way of avoiding the dreaded (for me) Winawer than playing that boring french exchange.

I wish TJ best of luck on his new project.

I'm as good as sure to also order a copy: makes at least 3!  Wink
As my main weapon against the French 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.Ne2 really starts looking like a papertiger, and my second weapon the Wing gambit is not for choice as main weapon, I'm looking forward to your book.
I'm already experimenting with 2.b3 on the internet, and in case black takes on e4 I like the positions. But what plan does white pursue after e.g. 1.e4 e6 2.b3 d5 3.Bb2 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7 5.Qg4 c5 6.f4 Nc6 7.Nf3 and now for example 7. ... g6!? ?
Another question, do you use the variation tree approach or the illustrational game approach?
Personally, I'd prefer number 2 for this one, because the FKG was a little heavy for my taste (though a very good book!).
