Topalov postponing ...Nxg6.  Are we still in theoretical channels?

and what is this??

This has to be a new plan devised just for the rapids and pre-planned; this isn't how White normally plays this position at all.

Huge psychology on the opening here. Topa's GOT to try and catch Kramnik in his prep somehow...

Yeah, Slavs and Catalans.

Just goes to show it's not the opening that makes a game interesting.

He's normally at lunch from about 1 to 3.30!

Maybe he's a Guardian reader - Jon Speelman announced today the rapids were Saturday. Or was that the Independent?

Kramnik's very strong in rapids: intuition counts for more in them. He had the edge even on Gazza back in the rapid circuit in the mid-90's, let alone Anand. Age may have withered him a bit but after all he's the same age as Topa, and some people think rapid is better for older players because you don't have to concentrate so long. Although that was back when there were breaks between games....

What a WC. Feel we've only seen slavs the entire match.

Exciting game 2.  I think Topalov got a great position is the early middlegame and somehow totally blew it.  Faster time control seems to favor Kramnik (less aggressive, but less blunder prone).

Where's Keano, BTW?

Don't. There still may be some hope left for Pro chess.

Two high quality games. Typical of that flow you get in high-class rapid. If you lose that you're dead, and that's what happened to Topa here; round about moves 24-27 he didn't quite follow the music somehow, while Kramnik reorganised beautifully over that period, et voila.
