I find it a bit silly joining the gutter press in mocking the gravity of the situation. It’s really rather unimaginative not to be able to grasp the psychological significance of a private space in these matches. There’s a reason all top-level matches have had them for a long time.
I am sure that it would bore everyone if I rejoined you on all of the points raised in your two long and well-reasoned posts above, each addressed to me. I think we understand our differences very well, in any case. What will be the outcome of anything that happens in the lawcourts, we will have to wait and see.
But I did want to respond to the quoted text, since it does seem to tar my position by association. We don't really have a "gutter press" here except the one that is obsessed with Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Lady Di's most recent missives from beyond the grave, the extraterrestrial origin of whales, and the like. It would be most extraordinary if it took any cognizance at all of chess. I don't know what your English tabloids are saying about Elista, though now that you remind me of their existence, I can imagine. Still, I congradulate you on having a "gutter press" that at least pays attention to these things.
But even if it does coincide with that of some execrable English tabloids, I maintain my view that the question of bathroom privileges is quite a trivial one, and a wholly insufficient ground for jeopardizing an important WC match. It certainly does not, in my view, merit all the tooth-knashing and shirt-rending that it has received on this board and elsewhere. It is risible to say, as Kramnik and many others have, that a "bad" ruling on the point of bathrooms evidences a corrupt abritration committee. "There! See? They won't let me use my bathroom!"
