Good question, Viking. Cheparinov's another of the same hue, but he does have one or two respectable GMs there - does Onischuk want to be associated with this sort of garbage, I wonder?

I'm no expert, but Kramnik has played unusually too, I think. You don't normally see ....Be8 with the rook still on ...f8, I don't think. I too would have thought a4 in conjunction with Bb3 was strange. It amounts to having played Bb3 unusually early in the Botvinnik Variation (with 7 a4), I would have thought. But of course Topalov will have wanted to exclude something in particular with this order.

Team Topalov/Danailov is just incredible!  Angry

They obviously lack understanding for chess within their team....

One thing is Topalov that obviously has to stand behind these "attacks" - he uses ANY means to try to win the WC title. But I cant really understand the other participants, especially the other chess GM colleages, that also take part of this. They will be marked as idiots for the rest of their life. Cant believe they will get any respect or friends within the chess community after this match...

I wonder if the atmosphere within the team is good?
Will we soon see someone abandon the team?

Btw, I wonder what would be the result if they did the same analysis with mr Topalov himself....

Hello,

On the board, as usual, don't understand what Topalov is upto, 12a4 looks a bit weird to me. Surely could have played a4 earlier, and kept more options open, although I suppose if intending Re1, Bb3 does not matter too much.
The latest tactics from Danailov likely to turn off even more Topalov fans.

Just received an SMS from a friend. “Danailov and Topalov are toxic waste in trousers.” I like it! Topalov fans, forgive me.

Perhaps it sounded too emotional; there is nothing for me to be proud of. I shook hands with Kramnik, and the match continued. I believe that his play is fair, and my decision to continue the match proves it. We are humans, and sometimes we make mistakes.

This was what Topalov said yesterday, so it seems like it is his manager Danailov who is taking it on himself to produce these dirty tactics.

On the chess, I agree with John´s previous comment - very interesting opening choice by both today....

Now you see it, now you don't! No Slav, then.

This is a massive psychological choice by Kramnik and indeed both players. This line is Kramnik's anti-QGA patent as White, developed in the Kramnik-Anand match, and he has been putting big problems in Black's way. What's more, both players are bound to have prepared very heavily for a very sharp position, one which suits Topalov's style ideally on the face of it. It's a huge, huge, call by Kramnik to allow this position, and Topalov's called him on it.

Danailov - beneath contempt. I'd imagine Kramnik will rise above. If FIDE had any balls, they would throw Danailov out of the match and tell Topalov that if there's any more of this nonsense he'll be forfeited, but don't hold your breath. And after Topalov said in the press conference that he didn't think Kramnik was cheating, too. If this stuff is truly a press release by Danailov, then Topalov's dwindling band of supporters is going to be down to a very few.

First, the game: 1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. e3 e6 5. Bd3 dxc4 6. Bxc4 c5 7. O-O a6 8. Bb3 cxd4 9. exd4 Nc6 10. Nc3 Be7
Clever move order by Topalov we didnt think of, and Kramnik takes opportunity to transpose back to QGA - I think this line could be a better shot from Topalov.

Next - the Danailov press release is just plain crazy, obviously an attempt to just plain annoy Kramnik and unsettle him. I disagree with Crowther though about his doubts about the match continuing - I am sure Danailov would love it if Kramnik walked off in disgust, but the match will continue and we will have to try and concentrate on the chess and not Danailovs crazy press releases.

What the hell is he talking about. My son (Fide 1969) makes 80% fridz moves (top 2 candidates). It’s because of the balance 20% he is still at 1969!

What a scumbag! If Topalov has any semblance of decency left out, he should fire him. Otherwise, we should start calling him, Super GM Fridz TopaLOO.

For me, theoretically the most interesting game of the match was the last one where Kramnik played the old Smyslov line and equalised very nicely. This game poses big questions for all 1.d4 players - I predict that Topalov will either avoid this line altogether with 4.e3 and we´ll get a another Semi-slav Meran. The problem here for Toppy is that Kramnik has tremendous experience and a good feel for this line - nevertheless it may be his best option (being a 1.e4 player I am not up on the latest Meran theory).

His other option, which is quite plausible, is to admit that he is getting nowhere against Kramniks solid 1.d4 defences and do a switch to 1.e4 - in this case I doubt very much Kramnik will go for the Berlin as Toppy has deep knowledge here also, but instead we will get a Petroff - the fashionable way here now is that early Nc3 and dxc3 stuff and that is a posibillity - but I fancy if a Petroff comes then Topalov will go straight down the main-line and have some deep prep ready (which Kramnik no doubt will be ready for!)

All complete speculation of course, but good fun  Wink

If Topalov’s ever going to go e4 I think now is the moment. But on the whole I agree that he’s most likely to go d4. What Kramnik will play is another matter. I guess the most likely is the Slav. Topalov has shown very little against it so far – in game one Kramnik had some pretty reliable equalisers to my eye if he didn’t allow g4 when he did. We may well see 3 Nc3 4 e3, and then it looks as though Kramnik intends a semi-Slav (I’ve actually forgotten whether game four started like this or not). But Kramnik may change too, of course. In London he didn’t stick religiously to the Berlin. I’d guess he’ll stick to 1…d5 though, either the QGA or Tartakover.

The 6.Ne5 line of the Slav is definitely sharp, critical, and complicated.  However, Kramnik has also developed much of its theory, especially in the Bishop sac line.  He might have some more drawish positions worked out there that he is waiting to uncork.

What bothers me more though, is what Topalov could do to deviate or improve against the 7...c5 line Kramnik already used.  Maybe instead of 7.f3...something else.  What do you think?

If he finds something, then I would agree that 6.Ne5 is the way to go.
