f3 - steady trading; makes sense, the fewer pawns the better the rooks, whether trying to draw or win.

Yes, probably very hopeful!

Is Topalov teeing up a repetition? ....Nd6; Rbc7 Ne8 and so on? Or would White go on then with Rc8 - I bet he wouldn't, whatever Avrukh and Karjakin say. Even if they're right.

I like that plan of co-ordinating the Knights - they were getting in each others way earlier

I hate endgames with knights. You always need to check everything threefold and even then I will overlook some tactics.

Ah, Ostap, good to see we're not the only ones with no idea!

Maybe they're both just playing?! I'm sure Topalov would not accept a draw in the match situation, whoever is better. These tough endgame struggles where both are just playing take me back to Karpov-Korchnoi 1974, which was largely decided in a series of grim struggles like this.

Any chance of another Topalov self-destruct/overpress, I wonder? Particularly easy to do with this material balance.

A hopeful comment?  Grin

Settling down for a long old struggle. With Black's two pawn weaknesses though it looks a Herculean task to me to make any progress.

Any chance of another Topalov self-destruct/overpress, I wonder? Particularly easy to do with this material balance.

The big debate on all servers is which side is better. GM Boris Avrukh said: "Zagrebelnyi is commenting on 64.ru writes: I am sure he is Topalov is playing for a win here , I think he is wrong, I would prefer White here." Karjakin likes White. Radjabov likes Black. John Fedorowicz likes White, I like Black...and the debate continues...

Yeah but now he cant move the rooks or the knight, with the rook exchange he could have used a knight.
