Quote:From the official site:
Today there were two separate press conferences instead of a joint one. When Kramnik was already sitting in the press conference hall, Topalov suddenly refused leaving the stage: «I will not go; I'll give a separate press conference!» Vladimir sighed with relief and said: «Okay, this is even easier for me», and spent half of the twenty prescribed minutes in lively chatter. Seriously...why would anyone want Topalov to win the match at this point? I've been a fan of his games since the late 90s and I appauded his amazing win at San Luis; but he's being an idiot. Lets face it.
He claims Kramnik isn't even worthy of a match, then accuses him of cheating, won't shake his hand, he has to give his own seperate press conference but won't answer questions about his teams
tactics, and....ah forget it. Anyone who
still longs to have Topalov as the champion won't be convinced by any reasons at this point.

ps - Just imagine how great chess is going to be with Danailov calling the shots.
I just got in from work and caught this post.
Very well said Nietzsche, you really hit the nail squarely on the head.
Before this match I was rooting for Topalov to win, but he has really disappointed me badly, and most chess fans around the World.
Should Topalov go on to retain the title of World Champion, his legacy would be some what like that of Fischer's.....respected for his chess but despised for his character or lack there of. But as I said before at least Fischer had the excuse that he was nuts, what's Topalov's excuse?
It is conceivable that Topalov is equal to or maybe even a bit stronger than Kramnik is currently, but after the sabotage of game 5, the World will never really know for sure. Moreover without the under-handed tactics employed in game 5, I'm fairly certain Kramnik would have shut out Topalov fairly easily, hence the need for extra ordinary measures.
Ironically only a chessplayer could be myopic enough to judge this contest only in the context of moves made over the board. After all that Kramnik has been put through, not to mention the three black's in a row and Danailov's latest insult re Fritz9 just before the start of game 8 is beyond words. As for those who think we should just enjoy the chess and ignore the rest, I would say that sometimes there are more important issues to consider than ones own enjoyment and pleasure.
Someone asked how aware Topalov is of his manager's actions. I would think well aware, since his manager is acting on his behalf and it is clear by Danailov's continued attacks that Topalov is not only aware but approves. What kind of message is this match sending to young impressionable players - that winning by any means neccessary is acceptable?
Yes Topalov won a nice game today, and under different circumstances I would have been proud of it, but for me the end does not justify the means.
It would be nice for a change if the World did not have to settle for an amoral champion.
