First, I have not seen Nunn's analyses.  Secondly, why don't Nunn and Kosten play each other in a Thematic   Latvian Gambit tournament via Internet? Nunn will take White, Kosten, Black.  That would be the best way to settle the argument.

Now again:

1 e4 e5  2 Nf3 f5  3 Nxe5  Qf6  4 d4 d6  5 Nc4  Nc6

White is White's best move?

Your comments, please.

I was just looking at John Nunn's Secrets of Practical Chess in which he points out that our own GM Tony Kosten's book on the Latvian could be refuted in 8 pages.   Embarrassed  (Nunn was very polite and complimentary of Kosten while doing this.  He used Kosten's analysis to show the dangers of choosing off-beat lines.)

GM Kosten,

I know it's been several years since Nunn published his comments, but what do you think of his analysis?

I think our Dutch friend needs to move this to the 1.e4 e5 section

Hello,

My question to you is this:

After 1 e4 e5  2 Nf3  f5  3 Nxe5  Qf6  4 d4 d6  5 Nc4 Nc6!?  are there any games available?

Tony Kosten's "The Latvian Gambit Lives!" (Batsford, 2001)  only gives  6 e5  and 6 d5.

But my Internet Chess Club games show that  after  6 e5  dxe5  7 dxe5  Qf7  8 Nc3  Be6! Black has sufficient piece play in the center for the pawn. He has piece development, attacking chances on the Kingside  and the center.

Any comments?
