I saw him at the world open this year, he looked really sick, you can see something was wrong. Well he did tie for first from what I hear. He went out fighting.

I too am shocked at his sudden death.

I saw him play a few times, but never got the chance myself to play him.

He will be missed here in the US.

(Unfortunately, the cause of his death is perhaps not so shocking to me.  I would see him in the bar drinking during his games quite often.)

Probably not many people know that GMI Alexander Wojtkiewicz was a sparing partner of Michail Tal. I remember him showing to my father his won games against him. He was always very proud of them.
I am in deep mourning for his death.

I read about his passing on ChessBase.com.

What a shock.
I figured he would be kicking around the US open and the like for at least another 10 years.
He was a terrific player and apparently a pretty good guy (I only corresponded with him via a couple of emails).
only 43.... Undecided

GM Aleksander Wojtkiewicz dies at 43
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=3234

I was shocked and saddened to hear this.  Wojtkiewicz was great player, one of the top tournament players in my country (USA), and still at the top of his game.  Such a sudden, untimely death is always a great tragedy.
