I appreciate your problems, Tony, especially at this time of year, but an update on when we might get ChessPub back and what's holding the repair up would be good. Is it that "the guy who deals with this" can't be contacted?

If you just want the latest games from any one section why don't you download them directly from the update page?
The date on the PGN Guides in the archive is the date they were actually updated, if you just want the most recent versions of these.

The thing I don't like about the PGN Archive is that you cannot do a search for the latest additions - the dates on the games are when they were played, not when they were included in the archive. This is where ChessPub.exe scores well - you can tell it the date that you last downloaded stuff and it will then show you the new stuff that you have not seen. A great time saver, when its available that is.

If the PGN CAN do this in its search then I would appreciate someone telling me how.

There seem to be some problems with the server again, I have alerted the guy who deals with this, but it might take a day to fix?! It always decides to do this when I am away for the weekend, of course! Angry
In the meantime, please use the Archive!

Today I'm having exactly the same problems with ChessPub.exe as before -- connection refused. Is the cause the same as before? Are others experiencing this problem?

Dunno how 'conservative' I am but I like using ChessPub. exe and want it to remain! Can you search the PGN Games Archive by Informator code in exactly the same way? -- this is a very valuable resource that I wouldn't want to lose.

Isn't the PGN Games Archive better?

Probably, but I guess most chessplayers are a conservative bunch and only change their habits when they are absolutely forced to. Why else would some of us stick to absolutely inferior openings Grin

Thanks very much for your help. My ChessPub is working fine now. But what should I be using (if I should) instead?

The server needed restarting, apparently. I didn't realise anyone still used ChessPub.exe! Shocked

I also have this problem. Previously I think I always had to fill in my password but now it doesn't even ask - so maybe that's the problem, not getting the chance to log in?

Yep, that is why I presume something has changed on the server or that the connection to it can't be established.

Same here so I guess there is something changed on the chesspub server. I'll try again this weekend and if it doesnt work again I think I'll send their support an email.

Hi Guys

I am getting the same error message.

I cannot use chess exec.

I run XP pro and it will not access even with antivirus turned off.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello,

This is a bit of a guess, so sorry if does not help, have you checked that your Firewall is allowing access to Chesspub.exe? Microsoft have made improvements to security for XP, but not sure if it applies for 98.

Bye John S
