Maybe I could put the ChessPub opening classification database online, it contains the ECO code, Opening Name, moves, and Variation name. Would subscribers find it useful?  :)

Well, the link on my desktop wouldn't work without me connecting to the Internet. But I'm not complaining -- I appreciate that change has to happen and the new-style e-books are great. But I'd like to know where that opening classification originated ...

I guess that bit is installed with the program and so works even without the internet connection. :)

Then why available on the site?

Is it? Can you tell me where you saw a link to ChessPub.exe so I can kill it? Thanks Smiley

Salut,

chesspub.exe is dead?!

I try to connect, no success. I got no login-window or something like that but the error: "Asynchronous socket error 10060". Then why available on the site?

Regards, e24

I'm afraid ChessPub.exe is deceased, it is no more, it has ceased to be, it is an ex-server ...! Smiley

It seems to be down again! At least I'm finding no box in which to put my password. Anyone else having the same trouble?

If you just want the latest games from any one section why don't you download them directly from the update page?
The date on the PGN Guides in the archive is the date they were actually updated, if you just want the most recent versions of these.

Tony,

No - not just the games are required. In ChessPub.exe you got the latest games AND the latest updates to the ChessPub Guides. How do you get the latest ChessPub Guides using the web pages? - clicking on "Playable e-books" seems to lead to areas that are often a couple of years out of date, eg, mid-2004 for the "1.e4... Download Page"!

Aha - I just found that I can get the latest ChessPub Guides under the "PDF e-books" link. So it does seem that I can make do without ChessPub.exe for now!  Smiley
I appreciate your problems, Tony, especially at this time of year, but an update on when we might get ChessPub back and what's holding the repair up would be good. Is it that "the guy who deals with this" can't be contacted?
They emailed me saying they would go there on Thursday, and since then I have no more information.

Simple! Two different ways! The last month's additions to the ChessPub Guides can be downloaded from the 'PDF eBooks' page, and there is also a 'ChessPub Guide' radio button at the bottom of the PGN Archive page, by 'OPENING GUIDES', so you can just search for these. Smiley
