Aha, mea culpa. I must've presumed (or been confused by all the advice! Wink ) that when searching the pgn archive at the french section I'd only get the french games. So searching for "1996-2006" must have found all subscribed games, even if only the first 1000 seem available.

6415? Neil must have been working every hour of the day these last few years! Smiley
How did you do the search to get that many? Undecided

No, you don't need to fill in the ECO bit, just click on one of the sections on the drop-down list on the far right.

Hmm, I did that before too - but now it suddenly works! Still, in the French I 'only' get 971 games this way and according to the pgn archive there are 6415 games??

There are help files to explain these things! Smiley
I guess the 'problem' of downloading all the games for a new subscriber is going to get worse and worse (or better and better if you just consider all the games they get for their money!) as the database fills up, but fortunately connection speeds are also increasing!

Try ChessPub.exe! Smiley

Just did, don't get it. It seems I have to specify both 'Updated since' and 'ECO code' & then it's pointless.

So my initial suggestion still seems best to me - unless you actually want to annoy future subscribers by either making 'em do a lot of manual work or surf the forum's plethora of threads to finally perhaps find a thread that explains how to avoid all that?!  Roll Eyes

In theory, if you put the date on 1998 (or before!) and then press on one of the sections (Open Sicilians, say) then you should get absolutely all the games in that section since the beginning of the world! Smiley
I haven't actually tried it myself though. Undecided

But I have tried it several times - it works perfectly  Smiley

I just tried it and it works fine for the first 1000 games, but I don't see how to get the rest? - going forward to page 11 and then download resulted in the first 1000 I already had...

So have I, and it works like a charm. After that just save the monthly updates directly into chessbase and you're set.

How? Is there really a way to download 'all in one' without all those eco searches?

Not at my comp, but do a import on eco starting with A then B etc. iirc that works

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

Also, check the PGN Archive, although there is a 1000 game limit here - there are now so many annotated games that an entire download would be over 16MB even when zipped.

Just downloading all in one section would probably take more than five minutes, opening them in CB etc (sometimes there are transfer problems, so some pgns can turn out to have 0 games the first time you download it) not to mention how boring this gets when you subscribe to several sections...

In short, why not serve the subscribers with a ready made base instead of making them all do a lot of simple but dull work?
