Well in the Kramnik match, even though he scored minus 1 (5/11), because his own rating was so far ahead of Kramniks (63 points) he would have lost 14.8 rating points I think.

As for the Essent, as everyone knows too early to start calculating, especially with Topalov who usually goes on a roll in the second half of tournaments. Hard to imagine losing the title has not affected him in a big way though, I am sure he expected to beat Kramnik and showed enough to suggest he is well capable of doing that, so I´m sure we´ve not seen the last of him! It is easy to kick a guy when he is down.

Can anyone figure out what Topalov's rating is going to be like after this tournament?

After the Kramnik match and this poor result (at least so far) I'm curious how many points Topalov stands to lose.

Only 0.5/3 for Topalov in first half of tournament.  Looks like maybe this was a bit too soon after WCh match, although bad starts are a Toppy trademark.

2.5/3 for both Mamedyarov and Polgar.

Yeah I didnt follow that one closely but it looked very dangerous for both sides.

Ah well, I guess you are right Willempie. Polgar didn't 'outplay' Sokolov, Sokolov had a better position. But she DID win after Sokolov, as you put it, 'screwed up'.

She outplayed Topalov in a very nice game though.

Polgar certainly didnt outplay Sokolov. He screwed up around move 40, before that he looked better. Then again he does that often lately. It seems to me that Sokolov has problems in positions which are good, but dynamic, against top players.

Great to see that Polgar is back in form, outplaying both Sokolov and Topalov!

Mamedyarov, Polgar +2, Sokolov, Topalov –2. I have to, at the outset, confess that Topalov’s loss brings in immense pleasure these days.  Grin That said, two great games by Mamedyarov and Polgar. Is my theory (in deserving world champion thread) about Topalov’s play (Post Kasparov) is correct after all? Is the world’s elite slowly, but surely sorting out the new found terror techniques of Topalov? Time will tell.
