Fine creativity from Black  Smiley - shame about the result, though.   Sad
Guessing that's another thumbs up for 11...Nfd7 or would you not repeat it, Fluffy?

Richard, in the other line we get similar positions in a better setting.

Worry not, Semko! 11...Nfd7 may well be best, but it's surely still worth checking out this fascinating rook, pawn and possible initiative against two pieces position?

I told you to look in another direction:
7 Nf3 Be7 8 Bc4 0-0 9 0-0 Be6 10 Bxe6!? fxe6 11 Na4 Nfd7! is promising indeed, but it needs further 2  moves: 12 Dd3 b5 13 Qb3 bxa4!
I cannot eloborate further since the analysis is not mine.

Good point Semko.
Willempie - that's an interesting idea (17 f4), I shall have to explore! Instead on Friday I just had a brief look (with 'Pantu') at 17 Qxe6+ Kf8 18 Qf5+ Bf6 19 Qxh7 Ke7 when we failed to dent the black position. Indeed White's wrecked kingside should probably leave him struggling.

I (or rather I let someone else do it) put it on Fritz, but apparently it thinks 17. f4 Bf6 is best, but keeps giving white the better position after Qxe6+ and Rad1.

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

I suppose that we'll  see that soon in practice.

It looks like white can claim a small advantage after 14.Qb7! Nc6 15.Qxc6
,as 14.Qxe6+ Kh8 15.Qd5 Nb6! 16.Bxb6 Qxb6 17 Qxa8 Nc6
nets the queen

I am not entirely sure. It looks like black is just material up (what we call the small exchange vs a pawn) in your 14..Rxf3 line. But maybe white can try 16.Qb3 Qxb6 17.f4 and now :
17..Bxf4 18.Qxe6+ Kf8 19.Rad1 and it is starting to smell fishy for black
17..exf4 18.Qxe6+ Kf8 19.Rad1 and again I am starting to dislike black
So 17..Be7 may be mandatory as it protect d6, but then I think white can win another pawn with 18.fxe5

So all in all I am not sure about the Rxf3 sac

Was just wondering what people made of Ivanchuk-Topalov? I'm not convinced that 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 a6 6 Be3 e5 7 Nf3 Be7 8 Bc4 0-0 9 0-0 Be6 10 Bxe6!? fxe6 11 Na4 was that good, despite a fair amount of praise so far. Indeed 11...Nfd7!? looks fully playable to me. The game instead saw 11...Ng4 12 Qd3 Nxe3 13 Qxe3 b5 14 Nb6 and now what about 14...Rxf3!? 15 gxf3 Bg5? After 16 Qb3 White lands up causing some havoc with his queen, but is this so clear?

Interesting. I know that 11 ... Nbd7? runs into 12 Ng5 and the Black e6-pawn drops. Your move, 11 ... Nfd7, keeps the White a4-knight out of b6 like 11 ... Nbd7? does but also unmasks the Black e7-bishop to cover the g5-square, preventing 12 Ng5.
