I will thank you for all of the answers. One of my teachers at my school has a scandinavian book and I will take a look into that book first. He says it is quite big and that's a good thing. If it is not what I need I will try to buy some of the books you suggested.

I played against him again, but this time it didn't go very well for him.
5. Nc3 e5 6. d3 Bb5 7. Qb6 Nf3 8. Bxc2 Kd2 9. Qxb2 Qc2 10. Qxa1 and he lost his rock. I was not able to put any additional pressure on him later, but when I had traded off the pieces I won.

I have looked at the Portuguese Variation, but I don't like it. 4. f3 Bf5 5. Bb5+ Nd2 6. c4 and what I see is that black is a pawn down without a good attack.

Sorry i misunderstood the original post.

I think after

1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Nf6 3.c4 c6 4.dxc6 Nxc6

now 5.Nc3 and 5.Nf3 will almost always transpose to the same lines, won't they??

Regardless of which white knight comes out first, Black's plan is exactly the same-- clamp down on d4 and work on white's backwards d-pawn.  Black controls d4 square with moves like e5, Nc6, Bc5...

i don't see why 5.Nc3 should throw off the black player in this line.  White's king knight has nowhere else to go besides f3.  Qc2, Bd3, and Nge2 is very bizarre indeed.  and Nh3...Bxh3 is just reckless.  So 5.Nc3 and 5.Nf3 will transpose 99% of the time as far as i can tell.

The golden oldie of Harman/Taulbut (well, 1993) combined with Emms is OK, but outdated on the Portuguese of course.
H/T recommend after 4.dxc6 Nxc6 5.Nc3 just stereotypal e5 6.Be2 (6.Nf3 and 6.d3 Bc5 usually transpose) Bc5 7.d3 0-0 8.Bg5?! (8.Nf3) Qb6.
Like Katar I think 3.d4 Nxd5 (Bg4!?) 4.Nf3 and especially 3.Nf3 a bigger problem for Black.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

There were two books on the Portuguese Variation around (this side of the Atlantic) at the end of the last century (published around 97/98) which very easily could be lots better than the Plaskett thing...

You mention Plaskett's book, so you already know that plaskett says of 4.d5xc6: "Taking the pawn is not smart"
So don't take it.  Simply go 4.d4 and play a Panov attack.  If Panov attk doesn't suit you, there are better moves than 3.c4 anyway.  Like 3.Nf3.

I think he was black, so he didnt have much of a say in the matter. I also disagree with Plaskett. These kinds of gambits are very hard to play well.

As to your question I am unaware of any "complete" books on the modern scandi, though I doubt you would need one for this line and you may be better served with an oldie.

PS the Nc3-line you mentioned has been played in simuls by one Bobby Fischer and one Viktor Korchnoi, so I dont really understand why the line isnt mentioned at all (though I must say I like black in these games).

If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

i think if you are not prepared to play Panov Botvinnik attack in the caro kann, you should not play 3.c4 after 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Nf6.

Now 3.c4 c6 4.d4 cxd5 is a Panov attack in the caro kann.

Questions about Modern scandinavian

When white play 1.e4 I normally play the Modern Scandinavian. 1. e4 d5 2.exd5 Nf6.

I have read the Scandinavian Defence by James Plaskett and I have figured out there is a lot he didn't cover. Today, I played against a guy and he went into the Scandinavian gambit. 3. c4 c6 4. dxc6 Nxc6 5. Nc3 instead of Nf3. Was it covered in the book. No, and if he had played correctly I would not have got an edge and I still would be a pawn down. He didn't and lost.

So I wondered if you know about some larger volumes dealing with the Modern Scandinavian Defence that I can buy or order in the U.S. It has to be in English [or Norwegian].

All help is appreciated
