If I am not mistaken Fischer has mentioned this line:

5. f3 e5! 6. Nb5 a6 7. N5c3 Be6 8. Nd5 NxNd5 9. exNd5 Bf5 =.

I am not sure if 8. ... BxNd5 gives a slightly easier game for Black.. (it could be vice versa! but I usually prefer BxNd5 to NxNd5 in similar cases).

Hello,

If I remember rightly there was a game in 60 Memorable games with this line, so could check out what Fischer played. Don't think it is that dangerous really as everyone would be playing it Huh.

I don't know about you, but 5. Bd3 or 5. f3 certainly looks threatening to my eyes! White aims to continue with 6. c4 (or even 6. c3; the point of delaying Nc3) and set up a Maroczy Bind. I play the Najdorf so I am not accustomed to face the 'dreaded' Bind.. but.. you can successfully counter all this by:

5. Bd3 e5! or 5. f3 e5! and then continue with a quick d5! asap. White usually throws in Bb5+ or Nb5 at some point, but the position is already equal..

Hi everyone I was hoping for some advice about an unusual open Sicilian line which I recently encountered.  After 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 - my opponent played 5.Bd3 instead of the usual 5.Nc3.  I am wondering if anyone knows this line.  Should black just develop normally? eg. If black usually plays the Najdorf does he play 5..a6 here, if the Dragon 5..g6 here, etc?  Or is there a single preferred line?  I don't see 5.Bd3 as a threatening move but it is annoying because it takes me off of my usual positions!
