Apart from this incident, how does someone become an ex-member?

I will probably come across as a spy here, but anyway...

I was so impressed by the effort you guys (SmyslovFan and OstapBender in particular) put into the gigantic " Steinitz:  1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd" thread, that I saved the whole thing back in february. Bound to teach me something about the French, I thought.

By sheer coincidence, my saved version (.htm with images) merges almost perfectly with OstapBender's cached version (4 posts overlap, I think). So TonyK if you encounter problems retrieving it, just say so and I will e-mail a copy.

A little googling found the following, but on the Goring I struck out as well...

Amongst and whilst = http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1174584309/28

Still no luck, I don't suppose anyone has a copy of one of these pages in their cache, and can give me their number (where it says "num=...")?

That's not the Gorring Gambit (with 2 r's) by basqueknight (see http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1126196525)?
I can't find the "Amonst and whilst" or "Amongst" and "Whilst" or combinations thereof, who started it?

I might jolly well be wrong,  but somehow I seem to recall a strange spelling ie Goering or Gohring kind of thing.

The amongst & whilst thread was started by Markovich. I definitely do not recall quotation marks anywhere.

No, the one missing is more recent.

Woofwoof (see next post) might very well be right with the name Goering (but certainly not Gohring).

And the other title was Goring Gambit indeed.

So far I have managed to find:
"Silman's new book", started by JonHecht, number 1169029420, Endgames
"Steinitz:  1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd", started by Smyslov_Fan, number 1152709519
"Dutch - Which main variation is the most popular?", started by thibdb13, 1172651634

I can't find any thread entitled "Goring Gambit" (could this have a different name?), and the King's Gambit thread seems to be alive and well! Any idea what the title of the Amongst and Whilst Thread in the Chit Chat section was?
Also, if there any other threads missing, please tell me now so I can get them all back at the same time. Smiley

Yeah, "Amonst and Whilst" or perhaps with quotation marks around Amongst, and around Whilst.

Hi Ostap,

My profile's working and I can log in again.

Just to let you know, it doesn't really matter much to me whether we continue the game or not. If you want to continue we can, but if not that's fine too. We could continue the game in another thread if you want, or if you'd like to wait and see if the old thread is recoverable we could wait for that. I'm fine with either of those things.

Regards,
Whiteatak Shredder

In the French Defense section:

The thread, started by Smyslov_Fan, was named
"Steinitz:  1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd"

The URL was
http://www.chesspub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1152709519
(the link, of course, won't work at the moment)

From a Google search, I found a cached copy of what is probably the last page of the thread here

Thanks Tony
