	Intriguing!, I say this, because when I think of such a debate, my mind is automatically drawn to the game Spassky-Portisch, Toluca Interzonal 1982, where gxf5 exf5 occurs and black puts intolerable pressure on the white centre and wins a (IMHO) wonderful and very instructive game. I believe that this game can also be found in Richards' book, 'Starting out - Closed Sicilian', which also contains other examples of the same theme. Hope this helps.

	Sorry; I am now! Practice has certainly shown that after exf5, ...gxf5 (the same structure occurs in the English with colours reversed) that White can't really pressurize e6 too easily, while Black's c5-d6-e6-f5 pawn wall does a great job of restricting the white pieces. This is certainly not easy to explain, but a quick look at some games with this structure (possible with a ChessBase search) may well help!

	Actually, Dvoretsky himself said (I'm paraphrasing) that "I can't explain it myself, but it seems that in the majority of cases this rule is correct." If he can't explain, I don't think I can!

	Dvoretsky said (in Positional Play or Opening Preparation or something) that as a general rule, you should recapture with the opposite pawn. That is, answer gxf5 with exf5 and answer exf5 with gxf5. It all depends on the position, of course.

	In the typical position that arises after g3-g4 f7-f5!, creating White e4-, f4-, and g4-pawns versus Black e6-, f5-, and g6-pawns, what is the proper way for Black to recapture after White takes the Black f5-pawn with e4xf5 ? With g4xf5 ? Thanks.
