As well he should! Pats on the back do not pay the bills! If you respect chess players and their work put your money where your mouth is, I say. Show me where to get the e-book.

Danielsen is going to charge for his e-book, so just drink the lager yourself.

Should be interesting to see what Danielsen produces. Magnanimous of the fellow - all the free internet stuff. Buy that nice man a lager!
Several grades better than plenty of stuff produced by people who actually want payment for their wares (Schiller, then Lane/Martin etc).

Do strongly suggest you blog your stuff TJ. Easy to use both vox and blogger. Easier for you to move stuff over and update. Trust me - hadnt used either then found myself having to teach an internet course! If I can do it, sure anyone can.

regards,

Bibs

Agree Mestel variation appears exceedingly random.

Generally punt KGambit myself instead of from (a la TalJechin's book. Oh TalJechin - some interesting material on the website but colours and design do you no favours - perhaps you could consider a blog instead? E.g. vox, blogger. More professional design may help you shift more units, which you desrve after your efforts) but, of interest.

What particular aspect of the variation? Have the Taylor book, so references to that ok.
Perhaps you can get the ball rolling...

Well, most of my site hasn't been updated for years - actually most of the KG-stuff is still there for those who haven't seen it and might want to...

Anyway, I saw on Danielsen's site that he's currently working on an e-book about the PolarBear System, hopefully it will contain a repertoire against black's other tries too and not just the reversed dutch.

your variation seems rather good for black indeed. Even if I think that there may be several ways of improving play for white and for black, Nxf7 may be an overoptimistic sacrifice  Wink  I am going to add your variation in my site  Roll Eyes

Concerning the mestel variation, I have a few ideas that seems good for white, so just tell me if you want to discuss about it.

And ...1.f4 Nc6 2.Nf3 e5 3.fxe5 g5?!

4.d4!?....... I like this move it take away the attacking bishop that should be placed at d6 (the chief theme of the From)  yet...... 4...g4 5.Ng5 Bh6!? 6.Ne4 Bxc1 7.Qxc1 Nxd4 seems preety unclear to me....

I have an analysis on 5...Bh6 on my website, and it seems that 6.Nxf7! Kxf7 7.e3 d5 (7...d6 8.Bc4+ d5 9.0-0+ Kg7 10.Be2 Qh4 11.c4 Nge7 12.Nc3 dxc4 13.Ne4 with a good game) 8.c4 Be6 9.cxd5 Bxd5 10.Nc3 Ke8 11.Qxg4 with a strong attack on the black king.
Don't know if this sacrifice is correct or not - and i don't even remember if this idea comes from a book or myself - but i think it deserves a deeper investigation.

Very Interesting   6. Nxf7

Yet....
1.f4 Nc6 2.Nf3 e5 3.fxe5 g5 4.d4 g4 5.Ng5 Bh6 6.Nxf7 Kxf7 7.e3 d6 8.Bc4+ d5 9.0-0+ Kg7 10.Be2 Qh4 11.c4 Nge7 12.Nc3 dxc4 13.Ne4

13...Rd8!?  attacking the pawn at e5, It Might (not sure....)  be the snag in your idea.......14.Qe1? gets 14...Qxe1 15.Rxe1 Nb4!

and... 14.g3 Qh5 15.Nf6 Qg6 16.Bxg4 Bxg4 17.Qxg4 Rf8   black is  mobile and on the move (i.e maybe with the  Initiative?  I'm not sure)...

Still very interesting!!!

Again I agree with Black Widow

Bird vs. Nimzowitsch
04/22/07 at 08:09:33    A question for Bird players as well as Nimzowitsch players.  After 1.f4 Nc6 i want to know black's best practical chance to play for the win.  I have an interesting system i'd like opinions on.

If white plays the Bird move Nf3 black can play a nice variant of From's Gambit

2.Nf3 e5!? 3.fxe d6 4.Nc3 dxe
Here the Nc6 appears to give black an improved version of From's declined because it supports the capture dxe.

2.Nf3 e5 3.fxe d6 4.exd Bxd6
Black has a nice choice of a plan involving a Bg4 pin followed by Nd4/e5 or the simple 0-0 followed by a push of the f pawn.

Latley, I've been playing a lot of Bird's ... I would have to agree with "Black Widow" that both of these Var are not critical tests of the From.

My personnal opinion is why avoid the From?  looking at it from white's perspective...it's just as sound or unsound as the King's Gambit.

Also possible is 1.f4 Nc6 2.Nf3 e5 3.fxe5 g5!? which leads to interesting play.

I would rather say 1.f4 Nc6 2.Nf3 e5 3.fxe5 g5?! Tongue

IMO, as long as white doesn't go for the main line 4.d4 g4  5.Ng5 d5  6.exd6, which is certainly =+, he has several ways to play for a plus :

4.d4 g4  5.Ng5 d5  6.e4!?
4.d4 g4  5.Ng5 d6  6.e4!? (6.e6!?)

4.h3 (my favorite) 4...d6  and here 5.e4 and 5.d4 are at least += I think.

That s why I'd also play 1.f4 Nc6 2.Nf3 e5 3.fxe5 d6

Just to add another wrinkle, I used to play 1.f4 and aimed for a reversed I-Z.  Against most Black responses, my second move was 2.e3, especially if Black's second move allowed for 2...Bg4.  I never actually faced 1...Nc6, but I think I would likely have played 2.e3 all the same in order to avoid the From (not that I think White had a lot to worry about in the From--I just preferred the other lines...).

I am pretty sure, 1.f4 Nc6 2.Nc3 e5 3.e4 Bc5 4.fxe5 d6 is not the reason for Bird players to avoid the KG, as 5.Nf3 dxe5 6.Bb5 is quite playable. The reason will be the critical 3...exf4 of course. Learning more or less shaky stuff like the Pierce Gambit, Hamppe-Allgaier Gambit or Steinitz Gambit to meet a rare line like 1...Nc6 does not sound economical to me.
At the other hand KG-eers probably will prefer 1.f4 Nc6 2.Nf3 e5 3.e4. Most of them do not consider 3...f5 an assault to their pet opening and the early ...Nc6 might be a light concession. And now we are back again at Fuster's initial post.
